hello everyone!

been thinking of upgrading from p&s to a dslr for quite some time already.

a newbie myself and i dont really see myself needing an expensive cam for the next few years.

really loved pentax reviews and price-tags and wanna go around to feel and playplay with the dslr-s.

any idea where can i go to have a look and maybe try out the cams?

greatly appreciated.:)

Can try SLRR at funan #04-18

u can try k-x
cheap and good
cheap becoz k-r out already and ppl start to sell their k-x.
good because it's simply good.:angel:

shops won't let you test DSLRs cos of shutter count. the best is to just come for the outing. many bros will be willing to let u play with their camera and lenses.

Buy k-r or k-5, so you won't regret in the future. ;)

yes, i suppose if i was 1st time dslr buyer then i would do that too rather than the k-x. future proof.

the improvements of both models over the k-x that appeals to me most is the improvement in user friendliness. would certainly be good to have a better LCD screen and an illuminated AF point.

yes thanks for all the feedback.

deciding more on k-r vs k-x. thats why wanna get a feel on both of it.

btw when is the outing again?

with increased shutter count does it de-value the cam?

or is this the right qn to ask. hah.

cos if im getting k-x, i might consider 2nd hand.

haha..we are all friendly people so we dun mind..its not as if you going to try by shooting 1000+ pic on it ;)

if getting 2nd hand, one question to ask is definitely what is the shutter count... cos why would u get one that's already in the range of 30, 40k? like buying a car, there's a higher chance of mechanical failure.

ultimately, willing buyer, willing seller... not cannot buy, but have to be an informed decision.

for new ones, shops will definitely NOT let u snap away. they won't even allow u to load up the battery unless u're confirm buying.

to me, its fair cos they are doing business and they have to safeguard their interests and protect their customers... if someone just snaps away and don't buy, how will they sell the camera? and is it fair to push it to the next unsuspecting customer? :nono:

its not like PNS camera where there's no mechanical shutter to deal with.

based on recent anecdotes, K-5 and K-R shutter count brand new is very low... only less than 10 or 20 test shots performed by the factory for QC purposes.

hmm..
did my homework and most likely heading on with a k-r.

btw why do ppl always suggest that pentax is average?

and how is the pentax/thirdparty lens market in singapore?

TS: i think i read onsome thread that on funan ( challenger ) there is KR/KX for pple to fondle ard.

Those ppl who suggest that Pentax is average, most of them never even try the cameras before. To me, they are just being ignorant and automatically assume that nothing can touch Canon and Nikon.:nono:

I got a frenz who is very stingy and wants to get a new camera to replace his Canon 350D. I recommend him the KR which is on sales at Sitex @$699. In the end, he never buy and the reasons he gave was because he think Pentax stuffs are difficult to find and he also thinks Pentax external flashes cannot make it.. He keep finding faults with Pentax which make me damn dulan. He even dare compare his 350D with a KX and he thinks 350D body is more solid and autofocus much faster than KX which I think is BS.

Anyway Pentax stuffs not as hard to find as what ppl said. There are alot of Pentax/3rd party stuffs to be found at Manly, SLRR and Orient Photo.

actually i just let pple think that as much as they want ;)

i really don't care if pple think that a pentax is lousier or not. street cred is not my objective.

i sometimes get the perplexed (almost horrified) look from people who ask "why Pentax?!!". just cos they only know C or N, they think they know it all. oh well, it doesn't matter. it just makes my white k-x just that little bit more exclusive ;p let them think its a toy and i'm not serious about photography. that's fine.

in fact, be glad that our Pentax DSLRs are treated as 2nd tier. if it were up there with the Cs and Ns in terms of desirability, then expect to may 20% to 30% more for what you had paid so far.

as for lenses and other accessories, yes i do think it will not be as abundant as for Cs and Ns but really i haven't come across something that i want and is impossible to find. right now, i am hopinh to get a white DA 35mm 2.4 but i think patience will bear it out as it is likely Pentax will produce it for mass market someday soon. As for other lenses, primes, UWA zooms, Macros, proprietory or third party, they are available. Just need to know which shops to go to :)

the comment on the external flash system is not wrong... not say "cannot make it", but seriously not as accurate.

i think the right spirit is not to be drawn into a pissing contest, but seriously, to know what's the relative strengths and limitations of each system, what your needs are, and invest in a system that best suits your needs. ;)

there are times when i had been tempted to get a C body as a 2nd body just so that i can try the MPE-65, but thinking again, nay... $$$ doesn't grow on trees and magnification isn't everything...

Good news! Emjay will be bringing in limited pieces of the the White DA 35 ( if my sources are correct!) Merry Christmas!!

yeah Ronald told me the same thing when i went to pick up the 18-135. emjay is however at the mercy of Japan as to whether they will allocate the 20 pieces.

also, Ronald did say that since white is the 2nd most popular colour, the white da 35s may be manufactured more en masse later, thereby pushing prices down. so... if not in a hurry, us white k-r/k-x pple may wanna be patient and wait :D

People go for popularity la. Cant say much. Canikon really have a hobby of doing big advert to pull in the crowd. But to each its own la. For me, I just choose pentax and lovin it.
