The Rising Tree

1. In which area is critique or feedback to be given?
- Composition, technical and B&W skills

2. What were you hoping to achieve with this image?
- The usage of B&W and a good composition.

3. Under what circumstance was the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
- In the morning, at the farm located in Taiwan.

4. Thread-starter's personal thoughts about the image.
- The tree rising up to the sun with the mountain ranges in the background, this is one of my favourite images.

Not a bad shot.

But the foreground could be much better exposed.

Good shot. I love that sparkle the Sun left on your pic. But somehow i feel that colour would have worked out better with this shot. Just my opinion though. B&W is nice too, but colour would have been even better i think...

So yeps, good one!

Thanks, will work on it.

Thanks, the reason why i didn't post in colour was because the foreground was too underexposed and it would ruin the entire picture although i like the coloured version better.

I shot something similar to this shooting into the sun, it did not work for me. Could be the lens, composition or whatever.

I agree the foreground looks too dark washes out the details and the monotone idea washes it out even more. Is it meant to be something like a silhouette?

Wasn't meant to be a silhouette but i had to make it seem like it because i underexposed the foreground.

The composition will work if we can see some detail from the ground.

From the photo since you are shooting into the direction of the sun, in order to bring out the details from the ground you might need to stack at least three or more GND. As we see the silhouette is expected with no detail from the ground, thus The Rule of Third should be applied, the ground should be 1/3 of the photo, if possible give some room to the sun on the top and move it to the side also.

Sometime planning the shoot is important, if in doubt shoot as many as possible with different expo, angle and composition, return home and PP to the result that you wish to have. :)

Great shot, love the mountains in the background and the composition

smokeweed,

that tree is gorgeous, and the sunburst works well for the image. as others have mentioned, the foreground blackness spoils this a little. i would suggest cropping it away but it would seem a little bit too tight. perhaps if you had chosen to give more space on top?

Noted.
The tree is really photogenic :)
