filter stuck on lens..

Hi,

i recently bought a filter and when screwed on to lens, i am having difficulties screwing it out. Do your filter get stuck normally? what would you do if your filter is stuck on lens? help please, as i am using stepup rings, i am unable to cap my lens. -.-

also to remove filter, use rubber bands or use cloth to grip.. or use a rubber mat.

if it is really stuck and you desperately want to remove the stuck filter, get a hacksaw and start sawing.





























Alternatively, google for these words "how to remove a stuck filter from lens"












another option is to get a lens filter wrench. You can improvise with rubberbands tie round tightly or anything that allow you to get a better grip.

Use ice? Wouldn' that make it even tighter? Since its cold?

I wouldn't use ice if i were you... condensation might even get moisture on the inside element of your lens.

Try to hold the lens body firmly and use a cloth. Hope it helps!

Freezing it helps. I had a B+W stuck on a 70-200mm F2.8 before. I put it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes (lens was in a ziploc bag) and after I took it out, let it warm for a minute, I could remove the stuck filter.

The reason why it works is because the brass of the B+W doesn't contract as quickly as the material on the lens thread.

But TS is applying ice directly on the ring itself, don't think that helps in this case.

Sorry, didn't see properly. Applying ice directly probably won't help.

TS - Stick the whole thing in a ziploc bag, seal it, and chuck it in the freezer. Go listen to a few songs. Then take it out and try unscrewing it. If you don't believe what I've said you can always go google. YMMV.

which site say use the freezer? I have googled and none say ice or freezer.

PS. btw I did find a site by googling which describe how he uses a hacksaw to remove the filter.

3) Place sealed ziploc bag containing item in the freezer
4) Take it out after a while

It worked for me. Some condensation is inevitable but heck, it worked.
