any difference b/w buying from those "premium" resellers like epicenter as compared to those small resellers that you can find around sg?

i'm leaning towards buying from a smaller reseller coz he is willing to install some of the programs for me, but am curious if there are any disadvantages of buying from him instead of epicenter?

would really appreciate some pointers. thanks!

I will say no difference if the smaller stores are also authorized resellers of Apple. Perhaps what you describe is a store that provides value added service to it's customers. Most important is have copy of the receipt and register the warranty with Apple.

I buy all my MacBook Pro's, iMac's and Mac products from Cathay Photo (Peninsula Plaza).
Their sales staff there - Ming, Max and Susan are first class.
You can make informed decisions and you can be reassured of very good service.
Price-wise, it is almost the same every where.
Even if I make a couple of hundreds of dollars of savings if I were to buy from elsewhere, the after-sales service I get from these wonderful staff more than make up for it.
So I only buy from them.
My sincerest recommendation.

his shop has an apple reseller logo. is that good enough proof that he is an authorized reseller?

Does the logo state "authorised reseller"? If so, most likely to be safe. However, the most impt thing to lookout for is that ensure the salesperson opens up a brand new box, with the sealed sticker (not tampered with or signs of opened before) in front of you.

The easiest way is to check if the warranty is apple warranty or shop warranty. This wrks the same way as grey sets of camera/lens.

Apple controls the prices. All authorized resellers have to sell at the same price.

The best place to look for discounts/deals is the apple online store.

If you have friends in NTU or NUS can buy ask them to buy, its a better deal and comes with apple care...

else i dun see any difference to buy from any authorize reseller... and i would strongly suggest getting the apple care, though its a few hundreds dollars, but its worth it...

Actually, not only the Unis, but other Pri/Sec/Tertiary schools will have as well. It all depends on whthr if the schools are using Apple Equipment.

The applecare is quite hefty sum to pay - dependent on the model you are purchasing. Not sure if it is all worthwhile, within 7 mths of purchase, I have already sent in my macbook pro 3 times...wahahahah

the apple care is free?

Apple care is a cost adder. :)

Buy from Apple online from educators' store will give you the same student price as from NTU and NUS, best part free delivery :). But if you buy from smaller retailer they usually will give you more freebie at the same retail price.

Do note the new OSX Lion is releasing soon. :) u might be able to upgrade for a small fee after that from Apple Store.

UniSIM can. For installment plan, they are offered online but only for certain bank. If not wrong only for Citibank but the educational price is not applicable.

Cathay or online.
