New to buying camera so there's a few questions i want to ask.

1)Does the camera screen already have a screen protector when you buy it or do you need to buy new one to put on it?

2) Are all the batteries (not double A batteries type) rechargeable batteries (for e.g the sony dsc h55 battery)?

3) If the batteries are rechargeable do i need to buy the rechargeable kit?

4) Does all the camera come with at least 1 battery?

5) What does a card reader do? Is it necessary to buy one?

Thats all. :) Your help will be greatly appreciated.

they should come with the plsatic screen protector . . . for mine . . . yes . . .

2) Are all the batteries (not double A batteries type) rechargeable batteries (for e.g the sony dsc h55 battery)?

Yes, you are right . . .

3) If the batteries are rechargeable do i need to buy the rechargeable kit?

it will be included inside, no worries . . . batteries too . . .

4) Does all the camera come with at least 1 battery?

Normally it comes with one, you can try to bargain for it or wait for sales . . . i got 3 in total when i purchase my DSLR . . . bargain my way thru . . .

5) What does a card reader do? Is it necessary to buy one?

your camera should come with a memory card too (SD most likely). At least 1 . . .
you can download via your camera and the cable should be given in the package when you purchase your camera. So you don't actually need a card reader . . . but most of us buy 1 cos we just take out our memory card and the download is much faster . . .

Thats all. :) Your help will be greatly appreciated.

anyway, pls read the 'sticky note' on top on 'getting your first DSLR' before you buy anything, it is good for you . . .

This is a follow up on your previous threads looking for a compact camera?

1. This depend on the freebies they are giving.
2. Propriety battery, yes. Can you imagine throwing away a propriety battery every time after each outing?
3. So far I have not come across a brand new camera using propriety battery sold that do not come with a charger....
4. If it uses propriety battery, Similar answer to 3.
5. A card reader is a means for your computer to be able to "see" the photo inside your sd card or memory stick. It is still possible to transfer photos from your camera to your computer using an usb cable but it is still preferred to use the reader.

Thanks everyone. Watched the unboxing videos on youtube and it seems that the rechargeable kit comes tgt! So i basically just need to spend on a LCD screen protector and maybe a spare battery. :D

Btw, around how much is a LCD screen protector and a spare battery? :)

you are watching the 'unboxing' video(s) of the exact camera model you are intending to purchase?
Otherwise it's not really relevant.

Just like watching a video of someone collecting the keys to a BMW 5 series, then later collect my Korean car and complain "how come no iDrive controller?", "how come no electrically-adjustable leather seats?" :bsmilie:

You never specify what camera you are asking about, how can anyone read your mind and answer your question about pricing of LCD screen protector and spare battery?
Also, it's not that difficult to go down to the shops and do some price-hunting on your own. Don't expect to be spoon-fed with info all the time.

A screen protector may range from $10-$30 depending on the grade/quality. Some are thin film like those for handphones while some are semi hard with few layers of coating and what-have-you.

A spare battery also varies greatly. You need to know the charges, bigger capacity batteries tend to cost more compared to the smaller cousins. Also a proprietary battery will cost more than a 3rd party. (between $10-$20 difference)

Kay thanks :) About how many photos can a 8GB store?

Kay thanks :) About how many photos can a 8GB store?

depends on image size, quality.

jpeg fine + large on my 10mp camera is around 1000.

This is like asking... "How many people can fit in an elevator?" without considering how fat/skinny the people are.

The simplest way is to make a list of questions.
Ask the salesman when you are checking out the camera.
You have to make him work for his money. ;)

Best way to know is to turn on the camera with a 8gb card in. The camera should have indication telling you how many photos you can still "squeeze" into the card.
You can adjust the size of the photo you will be taking and this size will in turn affect the number of photos that can be stored onto the card.

A very big thanks to THOSE PEOPLE who helped me, this newbie, clear my doubts and being so understanding for my lack of experience. :)
Really appreciate it. :D

:nono::nono: Bro, everyday eat fish will sian. :bsmilie:

Anyway TS, just remember to do a search or read through relevant articles and guides here in CS will do. If really can't find the answer then feel free to ask. :)

I have my concerns here. Asking such questions to a sales man will just ring the big money bell and in his brain and a big sign with '$' and a carrot will be lit up. A customer who is unsure is a customer that can be chopped. Without homework it's better to leave without any further purchase.

Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day :bsmilie:
