Though I take such testings with a pinch of salt, it's good to see Pentax finally shines through its competitors!

Congrats to the new APSC iso prerformance KING!

actually if you looked at the SNR curves, the k-5 is only slightly better than the D90 before the NR of k-5 kicked in.

I think the amazing thing about the k-5 is not the high iso but how good the numbers are at IS80, especially dynamic range which is 14 eV !

14.1 DR

the k-r only has 12+ DR

how come the performance of the k-r and k-5, gap so large?

Aiyah, we already advise you to buy the K-5... instead you go buy the K-r.
Not that the K-r is bad but landscape shooter like you NEED the increased dynamic range.

It seems only Nikonian and Pentaxian are interested in DXOmark ratings. :bsmilie:

Obviously not. whichever camera wins in the dxomark, then its users become interested in. you can see quite a lot such posts in the sony subforums for example.

next year then change... poor person is like that one :bsmilie:

maybe van will switch after all anyways. I show her the scores and k5 iso 6400 result and she was tempted

wah... 14stops DR... its good for those single image PP...

but actually even for landscape shooters... 12 stops more than enough... it doesn't really change the workflow... many still capture multiple exposure...

well if my cheap k-r has dr similar to ff cam, I can live with it for a year !

You know you still can sell the Kr and upgrade for a K5, right? ;)

my plan is to influence van to want the k-r, then I can upgrade to k5 and give her my k-r.

trouble is, I think she will end up wanting a k5, it's that good

The DXO test seems to bear out my observation (to some scepticism) that the K5 has about a 1 stop advantage to the KX at high ISO. Look at SNR and Dynamic Range.

anyways, as a side note, i would still take all these figures with skeptism.

we had previously (as a group) slammed DXO's ratings of the older pentax cameras... i'm not going to sing a different song because it favours the newer bunch of cameras. :)

especially when the site lists k-r as 12 fps.... can't say they pay much attention to accuracy.

Aya the K-r is good enough no point upgrading... which in a way i dun think its an upgrade when you dun need all the extra features of the K-5 and K-r is already serving ur needs...

seriously the sensor on the K-x/K-r is already very good... DR is more than enough... keep the money for something else... :)
