1. in what area is critique to be sought?

1st time taken a picture of a bird. Not sure what to look for when taking a picture of bird.
Anything that can improve this picture.

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
To show the viewer how beautiful this little bird is. Too bad the focus is not on the eye. Before I could take another few shot the bird flew away...

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)

Lucky encounter with this little bird while at zoo outing yesterday near Ah Meng restaurant.

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture

Never taken a bird picture before. So it's quite fascinating to see such a beautiful bird upclose. Normally I'm just enjoying those nice bird picture from the seniors here. Personally I like this picture alot.

Shooting Information

Shooting Mode : Aperture Priority
Shutter Speed : 1/100
Aperture : f4.0
ISO : 400
Focal Length : 200mm
White Balance : Auto

Camera : Canon 500D

Nicely taken. But its too tight for my liking. Give it a bit more space to breathe :)

I like the sharpness and colour but the crop like mentioned above is too tight.

Nice colours and creamy background, but I find that the cropping is too tight. Not much space left on top and to the right of the image. :)

Hi all,

Thanks for dropping by. Will take note on the cropping. I will try to upload again after improving on the cropping.

Heeded the advice from the seniors here. This is the improved picture in term of cropping.
Any improvement here? Or need to give more breathing space?
Please keep those comments coming in....

It will be good if you can include the full flower in the picture thereby giving the bird more breathing space on the right. The feet and the break are OOF which is a bit distracting

To me, just the reverse, remove the red flower as much as possible is better.

As you mentioned, the focus was on the wing and not the eye. To me, that really waste the picture...
