Prosumer recommendation?

Hi all.. Wondering if anybody can recommend me a prosumer camera for my needs? I'm a total photography noob, but i'll still do some tweaking to stuff stuff like the aperture, exposure, and iso. Prefer not to get a DSLR because i don't want to invest in multiple lenses, dry boxes, etc.

My requirements;

- Good low light performance
- Good macro capability for super close up shots (mostly done in low light)
- MUST use AA batteries
- Able to take wide angle pictures
- Budget <$800

Everything else like zoom, image stabilization, etc, not that important..

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Perhaps you can take a look at the Fujifilm Finepix HS10.

It is a very versatile camera and uses AA batteries.

HS-10 is a very good recommendation that suit your needs.

Most digital cameras are moving away from using AA batteries. Fuji still have some models that uses AA, Canon also have some Axxx models that uses AA, and Pentax DSLR still uses AA. Getting rare.

I used a historic predecessor of HS10... the S9500

And yes, I will recommend a HS10. Fuji prosumer is probably the best value for money.

On second thought, you may consider an entry level DSLR so that your investment on prosumer may not be wasted. There is very little resale value of PnS or Prosumer, where as DSLR will always have some residual value!!

It was a great camera .. the camera suicided out of jealousy to DSLR. .. It was sitting idle in dry cabinet for some time when I moved to DSLR. One fine morning, I took her out and she was already dead. No power on!! The dead body is still with me... Fuji hospital is at very inconvenient place with odd working hour!! Not sure whether I will spend 100-200 to inject a new life to my old ex GF :bheart:

I hardly use my S9500 now. Try to give to the wife, but she seldom takes it out. :bsmilie:

But really, back in the day, it was really good. And prices for DSLR back then were sky high. And seriously, it went around the world with me.

I paid 950... and we bought 2 units. And a few months before we bought the S9500, my dad bought the S2pro for almost 4k. :cry:
