Which lens to bring for my Seoul trip ...

Hi all ... am going to Seoul next month.
Can't decide which lens to bring along.
alast ... decided to tag my 30mm and 90mm for that cold trip

my lens ...
nikor 18-200VR I , 17-55 VR , 50mm F1.8
tamron 17-55mm , 90mm
sigma 30mm

IF you were me what lense would you bring along ... thanks

Seoul - love that city!

If you want to bring a single lens, then i suggest just take the 18 - 200mm. If you have more space, bring your prime lenses - 50mm and 90mm for your portrait and macro respectively.

When I went to korea last year, I only brought the tamron 18-270mm... in your case, I think the 18-200 vr would do... travel light... you won't waste time setting up your tripod to shoot tiny insects there, i'd bet on that, unless your purpose is to shoot macro and not holiday.

as for tripod, just buy a cheap one there... and don't forget your wireless remote.

what cam body are you using anyways, bro? do you have spare battery, or a camera grip? coz it's gonna be cold there that time, battery power dries fast in cold weather... better bring extra batts or a grip so you wont miss any shots!

Personally I would only bring 2 lens - 50mm and 35mm (for full frame body). These 2 lens is the only 2 lens I will ever need for travel photography. The rationale is, to get the sharpest photos possbile using prime lenses, and basically travel photos are scenic based not capturing details.

I only bring a 18-200 when going overseas trips and it server my needs well...though sometimes I do wish I have something wider...

I guess also depends on the type of tour you are going. If you are free and easy on your own, then you can bring a few lenses (maybe a faster lens for low light usage) as you can take your time and change lenses

But if you are following a tour group, then better just keep to your 18-200 as you usually do not hang around the same place for long... Got to rush here and there..

Am using D80. 3 batts and vertical grip too.
I've been using D80 for like 3 years now. I don't know if it can handle cold weather ... :cry:
Unless some kind soul wanna lend me his/her 'weather seal' like D300/D300s .. hehee
Will covering your cam body while wearing down jacket, reduce power loss in batt ?

Just came back from seoul last week, the leaves are already turning, if you are going within the next 3 weeks, most probably you will be able to catch the full spectrum from yellow to red. I would suggest bringing the 17-55. Lotsa of nice scenery and architecture to take, (depends on where you are going). I brought a 70-200mm but didn't really use it except for shooting a concert I went to.

If I were you, I'd take just the 18-200. It's more than enough to cover practically everything. I would even seriously consider the 18-55!

And since I believe this is not a dedicated photog trip, I'd suggest you go light (take into account of all the shopping!). For batteries, yes, bring one spare and make sure you have your charger. No need to be overly concern over cold weather. I was there last Dec, it was snowing. My LX3 serves me just fine.

The leaves will almost botak for 26 Nov till 3 Dec. It's quite difficult to see the nice leaves already.
maybe can try 南怡岛 - 冬季恋歌 拍摄地. Hopefully still superglue on top of the trees. you can see one row of yellow trees, another row reddish, another with greenish... if you are on a tour, dont waste too much time taking perfect shot. Just keep going and shoot because there're too many nice scenery at the back.

18-200mm is the most useful as it covers all, especially when u watching performance at the square. weekend daily 10am.
however, u might need at least one lense to make nice bokeh of some portrait shot.

Remember to que up in for the Zoo in Everland. it's good to watch the live white tigers and big bear walking around/beside the bus. it's worth to que for 60 minutes. lol.
