Photomarathon Outing 23 Oct Sat, 7.30am

I will be meeting Billy, Darren and Ahkok at 7.30am at Suntec convention hall 401
I want to thank Ahkok for coming down to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur to attend this competition with me.

Some tips for the photomarathon.

Shoot fast and submit early if you can, if not you are going to be standing in the submission queue for a long time ( about 6000 people )
Shoot and make sure your submission photo is the last one on your card. This way you won't get it wrong as the submission time at the computer is usually one minute.
Submit jpg to max 5 megabyte size as you cannot submit raw files.
Shoot together as a team if you can so we can maximize all our resources and equipment.
Creativity, perspective, props and lighting can usually make up for distance needed to travel.
Look at the theme in question, think literally, think of phrases that fit. Think large, think small. Think if possible to change perspective, angles and composition to trick the visual perception of the photo. Use props and people or location if possible.

Things to bring
- A small prop that will be can be used in a generally suitable way but hard for others to get easily. I will be bringing a large diamond.
- Your camera equipment - I will be bringing 6 flashes, one lightstand, three sets of radio triggers and umbrellas.

I will registering on the spot that day same as Ahkok.
If I cannot join the contest, I will try to help anyone who needs assistance in composition, colors, lighting and props. Call me at 90070503 Francis

Another thing to suggest is a mass flash event, we can try to flash our flashes at the same time so that the official photographer or our own teammate can capture everyone's flash at the same time.

Take your non canon flash off the camera and set it to manual flash power the smallest you can do it. Some flashes can set to 1/128 power. For nikon sb800 and sb900 users, set it to su-4 mode so it can be optically triggered. Then press the test button to fire the flash when the picture is taken. This is to ensure that there is at least some flashes can be captured in the long exposure shot of maybe one second f22 at iso 100.

for canon flashes, take your flash off the camera set to slave mode, channel 1 group A so the official photog master flash can trigger all canon flashes at once if possible.

to write the Canon name in the whole crowd, there can be a separate group who can have their canon flashes arranged in the shape of canon and having red gel filters on their filters so they stand out from the other flashes.

This might be interesting if it succeeds.

Okay, Roger..

interpreting the theme creatively AND..... getting what the judges like for the theme... is paramount to winning.... photos not necessary be the best looking, best iq... good composition might help, correct exposure might help, but interpreting the theme as what the judges like is the key...

best if there is someone who is willing to bring a laptop for your own viewing and selection of photos instead of just using the camera LCD screen.

Get lens clean, camera internal clean as there won't be any pp to remove spots due to dust.

previous years.... there have been many winning shots which are studio set up....

Are you joining us for win the compertition..?;)

Most probably will be bringing a lightweight laptop with me... btw how many of us are meeting @ 7am under the escalators at the Food Republic food court at Suntec Convention hall?

sold my camera body today. ;p
if I am joining... probably might just used my pns.... still deciding.

For those who are going who intending to be registered on the actual itself, it will be best to head straight for the queue as early as possible and meet inside the hall.

coolthought has a good point.
I have to be there as early as possible to register for the contest as I am not on the namelist yet.
So I will meet at the hall level 401 itself at 7am. Cancel the previous food republic location.

I will have a very big black backpack with yellow reflective vest and an army camouflage hat.
Anyone that needs a camera just use mine then, my camera takes CF cards, so just keep a spare card handy.
Or just shoot with my cards. I have five.
I will be also lending anyone that requests for my flashes, umbrellas and other equipment if they need.
By sharing resources, I am sure it will be more fun and effective.

Simonale, I have no idea. Does it matter?

Should be no problem..coz after registeration we still need change to " Canon shirt "..:embrass:

Let us meet-up again and further discuss at the participant seat.

So this is suppose to be a mass rapid fire of flashes? Thousand over flash units forming a word?

Maybe, but it depends whether the organisers of the photomarathon will try it or not.
We can gather friends and see if we can try out how many flashes can be controlled by the master slave function to be captured in a flash shot of maybe canon flashes.
I know that Joe McNally has triggered up to 47 flashes for a single shot before for Nikon flashes.

There are various flash experiments that can be tried out.
During the day, there will be a lot of waiting time that can be used this way.

If there are enough radio triggers of a certain brand, we can try to see how many flashes can be triggered by say x-brand triggers in a certain area and how far can it go.

How about forming 2 groups here.
One will be the actual day register group and two will be the already registered group.
All peeps who wanted to go will either look for group one or two leader and later merge up when all are registered (hopefully.... crossing fingers)

Since this has been an annual event for quite some time, there are lots of winning and finalist entries to look at. We can all go do our own homework and meet up sometimes this week to discuss why this win and this doesn't. How well the winning entry has interpreted the theme... This way, hopefully... we can get into the judges' frame of mind when we are interpreting the theme given on the actual day.

PS... btw those who are joining for the first time and is using a canon camera, there is the free camera servicing....
