Yeah, both were on auto white balance, but the K5's auto white balance is truer. Lighting was florescent (which sometimes fools the KX auto WB) with some daylight coming in from a window. The KX's sensor is pretty competitive IMHO.

is it shot in JPEG? the vase of K-x look pale and the seem to have some details lost @iso800?

Hmm.. 6400 iso on the k-5 look more grainy compare to the K-x though. but it still look nice :)

Yeah. I don't shoot raw. Haven't installed the Pentax software. The differences are in the auto white balance and my lighting situation.

Hmm..I will be surprised if the K5 high iso performance can only match the KX. From the KR hands-on that I read, it seems that KR is around one stop better than KX. And K5 is supposed to be at least on par with the KR so doesnt make sense if KX can still compete with K5 in terms of high iso..

As a KX user, I do find that the K5 is about 1 stop better overall than the KX. Do note that the 16MP sensor is much larger than the KX's 12MP, so the pixel peeping example is exaggerated the noise.

Thanks for the pictures..
The K-x appear more washed out..
Is it just WB or it has less Dynamic range than K-5?

K5 got 14bit raw output, better shoot raw to compare :)

whoa..you're back? I though you wanted to go for Part II of the outing ;) But I guess since the raw rice is now cooked, no point to hang around but to go home and check out the images. :bsmilie: Hope you all had a great outing.

Yeah, the outing was great! Took quite a few photos w/ the new camera and lens, I'd say I really enjoy the new ... lens I mean ;) After some play w/ the DA35, I can say it's a great little lens.

Something happened? The camera no good?

Could you be kind enough to share the EXIF data and how the images were done? (ie. RAW; No PP; NR setting; etc)

It seems that the exposure is more on the Kx (looking at the shadows and the bright window reflection on the case).

WB is off, or Kx uses stronger WB or could be a combination with lower exposure on the K5.

K5 ISO6400 might be swapped with ISO12800. ISO12800 seems cleaner than 6400.

Apologies in advance for all the queries.

You are right. My bad. I've fixed it now. I also redid the 100% crop at ISO 6400
