Hi experience buyers out there :),

I want to get a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, and i have a friend going to HK soon.
The estimated price is around SGD ($5XX) there, and locally its around SGD ($620).
The price is fairly attractive but I am concerned about the warranty.

From what i know, tamron do not give international warranty, but the local tamron set have a 3years warranty. So do give me an idea of whether to buy in HK or locally :dunno:

Thanks in advance :D

Buy local

The extra $$ is an insurance for your lens . . . :)

Why don't you check again the warranty status . . .

It's down to ur comfort level then..
I would personally prefer to buy it local since the % difference isn't that much.. take it as paying for warranty..

Please note that most of the quoted price in HK is for grey sets with no warranty.

Even if there is warranty, you will only get 1 year international warranty. Local sets get 3 years warranty. Up to you to decide if the 2 extra years of warranty is not worth $80 more.

Yup I was leaning more towards a local set as they had 3 years warranty for it. From what tamron site posted, they seem to not give international warranty unless u submit a warranty card from they place of origin you bought and a receipt to your local tamron distributer. Seems like lot of work to do.

I would feel much safer to get a local set too, like the testing of front/back focusing, scratches on lens, etc. Yeah the % diff is only ard 20%.

Talking about grey set, it's quite common in HK. Hmmm I think my heart would be at peace if I get a local set.

Thank you all for giving me your opinions,it sure give me a clearer picture
