Is there a need to rent a car? or just take taxi around?

tour?

Is it safe to walk around with DSLR?

Planning this go either this month or next month.

And will be staying for a week.

I think hire a driver will be better cos bali is 5 times bigger than Singapore. Moreover, there are lots of nice location (temples, beaches, trekking etc) all over entire Bali. Let me know If you need a driver!

I don't know whether the charges are neg or fixed. I use him for my last Bali trip and didn't neg with him. By the way, the charges includes a 7 seater car, driver, driver meal, petrol and carpark) excludes insurances.

I heard from my friend there are even cheaper rates like RP250000, but for sure the driver will lead you to all places that offer the driver big commission.

hello!! went to bali last dec! if you are more adventurous and have more days/time over at bali try renting a car! equipped with a GPS system(loaded with Indonesia map) hardly had any trouble getting around! it was cheap renting a car and petrol there is very cheap and you get less hassle with drivers around, but tiring!

also WATER RAFTING is a must! bring a waterproof cam if you have scenery were beautiful, you can only see amazing scenery from the river cheers!

actually i would prefer to rent a car in bali because its cheaper and you have the flexibility to go where you want. its easy to navigate and road signs are quite ok too. i think it was only S$30 a day for a small car.

oh icic, but this does not include the petrol/time for navigation/parking rite?

i was comparing noinoi's driver, i think 50+ a day
but those are included, maybe less headache...

Places of interest in Bali are spread around the island of Bali. Being unfamiliar with the roads and road condition you can't really estimate the time you need to travel from point A to point B. You may end up wasting a lot of precious time.

The last time I was there the road cave-in and we need to detour. If that happen, can you use GPS to find alternative route. You need 100% concentration when driving and that can be very very tiring. Australian rent motorcycles to move around town and beaches. You can try that too to minimize cost.

Bali is dominantly Hindus, there are many interesting temples for photography. However, there are certain customs to follow when entering temple areas. If you wear shorts, you must rent a sarong to wear over your shorts. If you wearing long pants, just rent a cloth belt to tie around your waist. For ladies it's different if you wearing sleeveless you need a scarf over your shoulder. If you not familiar with their custom you may offend people so it would be better if you have a driver cum guide.

My friend goes to Bali frequently to buy arts and crafts to sell in his shop. Even though he know the places very well and speak good Indonesian Malay he stills prefers to be driven. It's not really expensive. Personally I wound just concentrate on my photography and enjoy the scenery and let some else do the driving.
