Hey, I got a problem.. my friend is having ROM on this month 26.. She is asking me to take ROM photo.. but my skill is so-so.. I am using 1000D with 24-105mm F4L Lens, i got 18-55mm lens. I told her that my skills is not up to standard but she wants me to take photos for her. i was thinking is 1000D with 24-105 F4L lens is enough? i intend to buy 50mm F1.4 for indoor.. is it enough?

24mm might be a little tight in some situations during ROM, especially if it is indoors.
Depending on the lighting condition. Best to get an external flash like the 430EX II or the 580EX II (and/or their third parties equivalent).
At the temporary place, in the ceremony room, use a flash and a bounce card. ceiling is quite low, so no problem there.
You may have to alternate between wide angle (10 to 18mm) to capture view of the whole room to zoom (16 to 35mm) to capture view of the couple with the Peace of Justice. Once the ceremony is over. You go outside to take pictures of the newly married couple with family members. The post-ceremony area is arranged like a church with rows of benches and a flower banner arrangement where the couple can walk under.
Had mine there last month. Also, didn't pay for any PGer, just asked my wife's cousins to take as many pics as possible. Just had no time to do PP yet.

You intend to buy a 50 1.4 just for this event? I would suggest you rent it to try instead. I feel 50mm might be too tight on your 1000D.
Just stick with the lens you have and perhaps pair it up with a 430EX II. You can rent one. You might not have time to swap lens once the ceremony commences.

At the ROM, i would say an 18-55mm with flash is enough already. If private function, i would recommend a 24-70mm or if they want table shots then the 16-35mm. Flash is recommended.
50mm is tad tight unless got a lot of room to work with and f/1.4 is not really an easy aperture to work with especially if beginner.

If you really want to buy for indoor how about sigma's 30mm f1.4? 50mm is quite tight I think especially when it is possible that there will be many people standing around even if it is outdoor.
Or just simply rent 35 f1.4L? 18-55 is sufficient for general uses but if you want shallow dof shots the 1.4 might come in handy.

hmm..it is in at ROM there. 18-55?, Then may as well I used 24-105mm better. Coz compare these 2.. i think i get better IQ from 24-105mm
I agree.. there is a lot of pple there.. I havent try sigma's 30mm.. is it good?

the ceremony itself is the key event, which last less than 5mins, and you can't interrupt the ceremony and have to go alone the flow, so just use a lens you're most familiar with and it able to cover wide to close up. there is not "opps, sorry I miss it, can we do that again?" for you.
other than this time, you can do what you please, shooting with anything in anyway you like and in any pace.
