A dead pixel of my K-x ?

While browsing my pictures on my K-x, I notice a spot that seem like a dead pixel to me on every picture at the same spot.

It does not appears on screen on the computer thou.

Does not affect pictures but I get irritates by it everytime I browse my pictures.

Anyone has any idea how to remove it?

Ive not dropped my camera before..

If it does not appear on your pc, then its not a dust-on-sensor issue.

Does this spot appear permanently regardless of whether you are in preview of menu mode?
If yes it could be a dead pixel on the LCD display. 1 to 2 are not uncommon for LCDs. In fact, some manufacturers will only replace the set if there are more than a certain number. You may want to check with Emjay on their policy but before that, best to let Kelvin have a look first.

I don't own the kx nor the manual.

But if pentax has found a way to map off a dead pixel on an LCD.... maybe they should win a nobel prize or something for it....

it could very well be a sensor issue, which pixel mapping will solve

As you described, the dead pixel might not be the sensor, the LCD display may be the culprit. In this case it can't be removed. Bring it down to the service centre to change the whole unit if it is under warranty.

TS: the only solution is to change the LCD. hardware fix. That is why one should always check the LCD closely before buying. A dead sensor pixel is much easier to fix (firmware only) than an LCD dead pixel.

you are not aware of cases where raw converters like lightroom supposedly fix hot pixels automatically?


do you not agree that such a case could apply under TS' account? that she can view the hot pixel on the raw file in-camera, but when converted to output jpg it is gone?

if so, why do you rule it out so quickly?

my bad. yup, there is a possibility that the software could map the hot pixel away automatically.

then the best way is to check if the pixel is at the same position on the LCD. if not, then pixel mapping can probably fix it.

Important to distinguish between a dead pixel (which remapping will clear up) and hot pixels, which appear as overly bright or discolored spots which usually occur in long exposures or if the sensor is very hot.
I doubt that the issue is that of the rear LCD given that it is 921,000 dots, it is quite hard to detect if there is a problem with any of the dots.
No issue whether RAW or jpeg is shot.

I do have a dead pixel on my LCD display...
And yeah, it does irritate me to a certain extend.
Anyway, i tot is quite common problems associated with LCD. My PSP screen have at least 3 of them. :think:

Me forget it is the K-x... at any rate even if the screen is 230k pixels, not so easy to check if LCD got dead pixels. Anyway camera should still be under warranty... so if in doubt, just send it in...

I see a bright dot easily on my k7 though. But in field use, it is never obvious nor noticeable.

Was busy, only had time to try out pixel mapping just now.
The dot is still there after pixel mapping.

The dot is there no matter on settings, preview.. Etc.

So it's confirm a dead pixel I suppose?
Is it common?

Will Emjay replace me a new camera for the dead pixel?
