Now, assuming that I'm not there for the "nightlife", which is a better choice for 4-5 days? From what I can see, Phi Phi is a lot quieter, more for beachside rest and relaxation.

Anyone been to both and can share?

If you want rest and relaxation, go to Phuket for a day or 2, just for sight-seeing and shopping. I did some plinking on a .22LR rifle and elephant riding, even rented a small bike to wander around the island. And the rest of the time can be spent on Phi phi, just to chill.

Been to both areas and I love the life on Phi phi, simple and quiet. :)

Sounds like a 50-50 split is best. :)

it's really ur choice whether u still wan to move ard...

lots of beaches phuket and all offer something different.

if u r going with a loved 1, try google for this hotel Boomerang village phuket.

if you have 5 days, 2 days on Phi Phi and 3 days on Phuket. Use one of the day to island hop the surrounding islands. Do not forget that there are a lot more beaches on Phuket island.

when i was a 'young' man in the 80s, Phi Phi was still off the beaten track somewhat and very basic ......we were rock-climbing with little technical support or hauling our own gear there .... girls were walking around the beaches top-naked and that kind of culture .... not today.... the huts and stalls are still there but its taken on a much more hip transformation which i do not like

i enjoy driving around up and down Phuket in a 4x4 so I tend to stay in phuket these days......

Krabi will be good as well

Krabi less touristy and quieter beach according to my Thai friend.

if you going Krabi... u can try this resort, Costa Lanta, i find their concept of accommodation very nice!
http://www.costalanta.com/ (good place for wedding shots and solemnisation)

Phi Phi becareful of touts... especially if you play the jetski... they will purposely bang into you causing some scratches then demand for compensation.

I went to Maya Bay at Phi Phi Le before, it's very crowded. Is it Phi Phi Don that both of you mentioned?

If you want quieter place, can try naithon beach or karon beach. Patong beach is very crowded.

karon us good if you want a quite beach to relax, but somewhat lacking in activities there

Thanks!! :)

No worries, you'll get your peace and quiet. :bsmilie:

all the common sense of safety applies.... have a safe and enjoyable trip.

PS. Do make a trip to the southern most tip of phuket island for the "so called" best sunset viewing location on Phuket island. If you do, make transport arrangement to fetch you back to hotel if you staying till 8pm or after as the roads are either dimly lit or not lit at all.
PPS. Phuket island is about the size of Singapore minus the expressway.

i agree with not going to patong beach. i went in Jan this year and stayed near Kata beach. Patong beach is very crowded and dirty. Karon or Kata beaches are nicer. You'll likely be getting a guide to drive you around? so can visit the different beaches anyway.

i did a one-day tour of phi phi islands/maya bay etc and found it a little short, perhaps you should spend more time like 2 -3 days there like suggested by some other bros/sis above. but i'm not sure what activities are available around the islands as i mostly did a hit-and-run kind of tour...

in any case it's a nice place for a beach getaway. have fun and enjoy the sun!

patong is too crowded and the place...
i mean the whole culture there is...well...

Do bring a netbook and give us a day by day update of Phuket tour.
It is interesting to see the changes to the place. Include photos.

Went a long time ago.

If you go to an island by boat, remember to ask the tour agent who arranges the trip, what type of boat.

Sometimes to earn more profit, they ask you to travel over long distances across the sea in a scarily bare bones small boat. The water level quite close to the top edge of the boat sides after the tourists have loaded on to the boat.

Check for enough life jackets in the boat. Buy travel insurance. Have a good trip.

There was a range on Phuket, the tour guide brought us there and I definitely wanted to play... :) Not sure of the exact location or name though.
