One situtation where i like to use the DA15mm is while people might step back to take a full shot of the statue, you step in front avoiding the people blocking....

K-7 + DA15mm Ltd, f/4 iso 1/30s iso 500

I went on the 1st Sep too but in the evening after work to take a look and see anything to buy. Went back on the 10th to shoot the Merlion Gundam and 12th to attend Mr Kawaguchi demonstration session.;)

just shot these this morning...

i'm having problems focusing on the spider's eyes / face.

The close-ups looks fine... but once u zoom in on the details, the sharpness is not there. thoughts anyone?

my first suspicion is that the K-X focus confirmation is too generous and not that accurate.

anyone has a similar experience? i'm considering to switch off the focus confirmation "beep" sound... its misleading and distracting.

i'm already using the O-ME53 magnifying eyecups... would a split prism focusing screen help?

my initial reaction is the eyes are too small. beside compound eyes, it is very difficult to get the eyes sharp. i have problem even with mantis eyes.

after attending yesterday session with master creampuff, now i know the answer to the unsharp eyes of your spider. the sensor is very thin and there is not much detail in the eyes, so difficult to get it sharp or sharpen it. :sweatsm:

another reason is your spider is not aligned with the plane of your camera sensor. when you are shooting a tiny subject at such high magnification, proper alignment is very important.

hope the above helps.

 too bad i had to leave early... just to clarify the 2nd point: the solution is to re-position the camera so that the subject's point of focus is parallel to the sensor?

it is not a point. try aligning the body of the spider to the sensor plane.

but i think there are other issues in difficulty of getting sharpness in a subject. for example, subjects with dark colour, smooth body, reflective body, curvature, etc. are generally difficult to shoot.

i shoot a lot of beetle and mantis but so far, i have not shot one that is sharp. sharpness as seen here.

maybe someone can advise on this, how to shoot a mantis of this standard. i have tried with the tamron SP90 and the DFA100 on a K20D body. I think the issue is not with the lenses & the body. I think the real culprit is in the lighting and aperture control which i am struggling with now. I am currently trying out with different lighting sources, the ring flash, multiple flashes, LED light.

hope the above helps.

AV Mode. 55mm, f/5.6, iso 1250, 1/4000s. using kit 18-55 WR with K20D.

can the silhouette be made even sharper from in-camera?

Hi,

May I know what program did you use to create signature and border for your pics? Thanks

K7 Sigma 10-20/4.5-5.6 HDR1

I keep trying to find opportunities to try out the in camera HDR.

HDR1 is easily usable. Generally no halos, but dynamic range is not that high. Maybe -+1ev. Even less considering it needs to be pulled down in PP to give contrast. Still it gives that bit more and can look more natural (which is a good thing).

HDR2 is tricky to use. It gives more dynamic range, but halos pop up often enough. I seem to find it most usable when light sources is not the sky (ie. lamps; candles; windows), where the halo can be passed off as aura from the light source.

Thoughts on the HDR?

I look forward to the improved ones on K-r and K5

Nice shot.
Actual hired model or just a candid shot?

Got nothing to comment. Looks good to me :)
sort of like a photoshoot but no money involved..
not really sure wat is it for, but the girl is new, so am i..

so i guess some good practice doesnt harm..

I tried macro ext tube (shortest and second shortest ring) combined with vivitar 2x MFTC and M 50mm f1.7. Looks like the result is not as sharp as the one without macro ext tube.

IMGP5635.JPG

2x MFTC + 50mm

IMGP6721.JPG

Ext tubes + 2x MFTC + 50mm

Where should I put the ext tube?

body - ext tubes - converter - lens

or

body - converter - ext tubes - lens?

i like this one

i place mine as per your option 1: body, tubes, TC, lens... it feels neater.
