Hi,

Another n00b question:

Is it necessary to turn OFF the camera if I need to change the focus from automatic to manual ?

Thanks,

No need for Sony either. No need to turn off to swap lens, no need to turn off to switch to MF/AF.

sounds troublesome :)
no la... why did you assume that such a step was necessary?

no need for canon to turn off to switch from auto to manual

no need to turn off for pentax...

even have quickshift to turn the focus ring even on AF mode.

Thanks guys.

Just being careful

How about anybody remove memory card or battery without switching off first?

SAME... no need to turn off for PENTAX, it automaticall turns off when SD card cover is opened. ;)
battery no issue also

Nikon Camera User's Manual says before removing the battery, turn the camera off :(

Part of the reason is just for safety, not for the camera itself but your file storage.

If you have shots that are still being transferred from the cam to the memory card, for example, turning off the power via the switch will still allow the cam to finish the process, but if you take the battery off, the files will not be able to transfer into the memcard.

Also here the manual will give you some information. Some newer models will give a warning if you open the memory card cover when the camera is still writing data to the card.
It really helps to read this little booklet :bsmilie: Wonder when they start releasing manuals as audio books for the Generation iPod... Or maybe it gets integrated into the cam? XMM guiding GWC in shooting other XMM

I wasn't asking can we do that? I was asking who did that? Does your manual provide this info?

Yes, the manual clearly states not to take out the memory card while the red LED "writing to memory" light is still active. Other than that I've hot-swapped cards without a problem.

Then read your manual - carefully :bsmilie:

Hi,

This was not in the manual.:dunno:
So asked.

Thanks for all the answers.

This is one great forum.
