It's allowed to on carry on baggage even a tripod! No problems

Ask the airline you intend to use. Check with the airport as well. Both have to agree, finally airport security will decide.

Yup, had exactly the same encounter. SQ and others no issue. AirAsia from Sennai said "Must check in with luggage."
