Hey CSers,

Channel 8's Star Search 10 is organising an exclusive shoot for photographers to get up-close and personal with the contestants of Star Seach 10. You will get the individual opportunity to work with this international group of talented goodlookers, complete with professional Elinchrom lights and technical support from Cathay Photo. The shoot will take place in one day at an outdoor location on 3 October, Sunday. The set-up is not unlike a casual weekend shoot with fellow photog kakis, except you get some individual time to pose the contestants and try out the Elinchrom strobes.

After the shoot, submit your photos and winning images will be exhibited at the Star Search roadshow in November. You will stand to win attractive equipment and product prizes sponsored by FujiFilm and other sponsors!

Do Feel free to pose any questions here on the competition, and check out http://xinmsn.com/starsearch2010 for how you can get an invitation to the shoot!

so take photos and win prizes. no renummerations, terms and condition of photos are not favorable to professionals.

Mediacorp is a profit-making organisation. The pictures are going to be used for commercial marketing and branding purposes for these upcoming stars right?

Seems like these days, anyone who wants several photographs decides to organize these competitions. Giving a few prizes is cheaper than appointing professional photographers I guess.

Completely understand why photography competitions are under heat for copyright issues, so do go in with your eyes open!”

i have signed up.

although not agreeable with the terms, but looking at myself, i am just a nobody haha... and you dun get to shoot were to be future actors/actress everytime do you (unless you are a famous photographer)? So think on the bright side.

so heck! as long as they allow me to display the photos on my portfolio, i will just accept it. :)

i think this contest is more suitable for newbies like me who is not famous in the photography industry since we are nobodies and this copyright issue is not yet that important to us at this point.

we should be flattered if they decided to use our photos for other future campaigns although we cannot claim rights to it.

I guess you mean to say "I should be flattered if they decided to use MY photos " & not "WE should be flattered if they decided to use OUR photos " :)
esp. when we, at least me, are not even sure whether they will acknowledge the original photographer, leave aside compensating him/her...
...and esp. when the organizers say that they can sell ur personal particulars for ANY purpose & make money!

i will safely say, they definitely wun credit the photographer.

so who shoots the photos, only we know ourselfs.

but if you think on the bright side, if they have choosen your photos and it can make money.

you will have no problem reproducing the same standards that you shot to make money for yourself next time since you know your standards is recognised by them to make themselve money using your photos.

if the t&c states the copyrights belongs to mediacorp, are u allowed to use it for your portfolio?

anyone can advise? seems like the rights is fully assigned and any usage have to get mediacorp's permission instead.

it does says that you can use for your portfolio but not for commerce purpose.

so long as i dun sell those photos, i can still show these photos as my portfolio for future clients. :)

i find it confusing honestly. if u are showing it to clients, that would be on commercial basis no? you don't need to be selling the images to be using it commercially.

if u are a hobbyist putting it on his personal site, thats ok. but if u are a pro and u use it, i think mediacorp might object to it unless u get approval. correct me if i am wrong. the mediacorp artiste i worked with had to get clearance for her pics to be used by me.

hmm i thought it is perfectly fine even for a pro to show his works (as long as he dun sells the photo) to his clients... cos after all they are not going to reproduce the same set of photos but just to show his works only.

nevermind, i will clarify this if i am selected for the shoot haha.

best of luck to you!~

hope u get in too.

Hmm may just try for the heck of it. But got exam the next day of the shoot haiz

You go join a lucky draw, your particulars will also be sold to some marketing firm. No one's personal data is completely safe.
