Hi all, I'm going overseas soon and would like a good AA batt flashlight. I've been breaking my cheap flashlights which aren't very bright in the first place. I'm looking for something that's bright, and doesn't burn batteries too fast, possibly LED, and weathersealed or water-sealed for use in the rain. Price hopefully less than S$80.

I've heard good things about Pelican, but they're all using CR2 or other non-rechargable batteries.

Any help here would be hot! ;)

Hi,

I assume you are not looking for Camera Flash, take a look at this website: dealextreme.com, I have been buying may items from them, although they are from China (I assume) it has been proven to be very reliable. I have bought a few LED flash light from them, price is good and with super bright LEDs.

Can follow the link for an example: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.19187

Please note the price is in US$, they usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to deliver to your home address.

I especially like this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29095, and after showing to few friends, most of them asked me to buy for them. A single AA battery flash light that can shine from 20th floor all the way down in the ground in the evening.

Yup.... just get from Deal Extreme.... I got most of my hi-power white LED lights from them. Get the AA or AAA for ease of use.... get those that use 18650 batteries for pure power. The prices are very reasonable for such powerful lights....and shipping is free.

The one I'm using currently - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32721

Small and very powerful.... but uses one single 18650 batteries. With meant that you would have to get rechargable 18650 batteries and its charger.... But total cost should still be under $80 SGD. And yes.... this torch has 'O' ring as weather seal.

Give fellow CSer, Cateye a PM. She stocks a wide range of flashlights at great prices.

I purchased a small AA LED torch last month and I am very happy with the beam range/brightness and battery life.

I also bought an Olight SR91 Intimidator @ 1500 lumens which is bright enough to shine across Marina Bay and puts most car headlightsto shame! But it may be a bit overkill for travel purposes weighing in @ 1.2Kg.

SeldomHere

I agree on the Fenix from cateye... good solid torches. :)

Get the following AAA operated LED touch light at S$30 from Perfect Watch at Sim Lim Square. Very durable and last a long time on a single AAA battery.

Call Cateye @ 96922260, she has everything cheaper or equivalent than the websites. Meet her/him up and they will show u everything wat U need best.

Not sure whether does Maglite produce LED flash light? They had good products before the LED technology overtook bulb technology.

cateye is a he :p

cateye is the distro for FENIX flashlights.
Black-technology bring in fenix, nitecore and china flashlights
shears technology brings in surefire, fenix, nitecore, zebralight, inova and afew more...

value for $$ look at dealextreme.

for AA lights , it will not be so bright, max aound 180 lumens but run-time is low ... around 1hr +/-

most of these flashlight have rubber rings so should be IPX-8 (did i spell right ?) standard meaning can put in water afew meters around 10mins

you can checkout dereelight.com ... ship from hongkong their javalin series might suit your needs :)

not sure what sort of light you are looking for.

fenix or zebralights you can try starting with...

any flashaholics around ? hahaha

do a search and you'll find the flashaholics thread

haven't been posting for a long time...

a bright light will mean short battery life, the question is how you define bright? how long should the battery last?

you looking for 1AA or 2AA light?

1AA suggestions:

http://www.inovalight.com/x/techspecs_x1.php
http://nitecore.com/goods_detail.php?id=3

2AA suggestions:

http://www.inovalight.com/x/techspecs_x2.php
http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=184
http://www.maglite.com/AA_Cell_LED.asp

there are other lights out there but i think thatz quite a list for to go through. if you are needing it soon i not sure if online will take how long to reach you. btw, the streamlight light recommendations would cost about $100+/-.

best take your weak lights along so you can compare how much brighter those lights at the stores are, use as referance. hope this helps.

After bought a few flash light, I still find that the one with Flood-to-throw (zoom) one is better than those with fixed light throw angle.

If for convenient, get a AA Zoom one to carry around, then alos get one that uses 18650 battery which can provide more than 230 Lum type (I also recommend a zoom type), that will cover most of the need and I also have a simple 1w (not too bright but long battery life) one next to my bed, so when I wake up in the middle of the night, will use this so that will not disturb my wife.

I bought these 3 from DealExtreme for less than S$50.

Mustafa has a big torchlight display and you can try them too before buying. I've bought a small portable "AAA" batt 1W torchlight, and a 3W torch using 2 "AA" batts. The brand for both is Power. I'm very happy with their brightness. Solid metal build, LED with power regulator, and it does have 'O' rings but probably water resistant only.
