What modern equipment can one get in order to last for 3 years?

i have an imaginative friend from Madagasca who never saw a TV before but he has an incredibly rich father. Now as a friend I am supposed to buy every hardware a modern singaporean is expected to have.. and which can last for three years.. What are the items I should get?

1) Canon EOS 5D II..
2) Panasonic 45" LCD TV..
3) Samsung Galaxy S..
4) Samsung Galaxy Tab..

Talking specifically photography, I have a D70... got it since it was launched and it is still with me today though I use my D300 more now but for about 5 yrs, the D70 was my main body. Like all things it is not the products that fail us most of the time..... but it is the user and their thinking that is the weakness.

I have my old NIkon FG and it is still working mechanically.

not much concerned with technology.. my laptop is nearly 3 yrs and perfectly new in appearance.. thinking of upgrade..
