I'm newbies in DSLR, am i acting on impulse? I just want something, anything and want it fast and had bought a Pentax K20D without second thought and it was recommended by one of my friend and now feel a bit regret..
Compare to Sony Nex is more easier to snap a close-up n blur background photo (demonstrate by a sales rep at expo)..anyone please advise.

Many reasons why your K20D is better:

Weather-resistant
Has a proper optical viewfinder.
In body shake reduction
Lots more lenses available

The DSLR is not a point and shoot like the NEX seems to be, you can take out-of-focus background shots with the right skills and lens too. What lens did you use with the K20D?

with the right lens and skills..you can take the pics you want..so dun regret..use the time to read more abt photography and brush up ur skill ;)

Don't regret, It's not the end of the world... LOL
Ehrm, Paging Mr. Airconvent please proceed to this thread, you are needed Immediately. ehrm Badly...

don't worry, Airconvent is our Insider in the orange side and will help you lead the way... :bsmilie:

Anyway, seriously. usually the easy way is not usually the best way. once you learn the basics of the camera it's just a breeze, just like eating chicken...

Since you bought already, why not just learn how to use it first?

For the closeup with the blur background, just zoom to the max, lower your F stop to the min and you can also get a nice blur background.

Once you get your basic photography skills right, all cameras are more or less the same.

rocaway: Pentax DA 18-55mm AL II
Banana0ne: It's not the end of the world but i spend this without doing any research, I know nothing bout DSLR and decide in just one day! am i silly?
Chanalb: what is F? sorry..im really new to DSLR..

Dun regret K20D is good! Whether is a NEX or K20D can produce nice bokeh.....Its just adjusting the aperture

Try setting to AV mode, then adjust the fstop to the 3.5-4.see the result

Hi, yip, no regret, just learn to shoot with what you have. For me, I ended with a collection and there many photographers like me. No regret also.

try to join the pentax outing tomorrow. by the time you go back home, you'll see how lucky you are and how confident on your camera. ;)

i think is the brand that make me feel one kind, compare to Nikon and Canon, can buy the lenses at any shop.

yeah, so many shops that serve canikon products but you know where the good deal is? the same camera shop CANIKON people go...

ha... got SELL everywhere doesn't mean u should BUY just anywhere... its a sure recipe to get kotok.

bananaOne is correct. its the same shops that sells the best stuff with the best value for most brands.

anyway, if you ask me, did u make a mistake by not researching and buying on impulse?
- yes, certrainly u did. its always better to research and think through before buying expensive items.

but should u regret buying a K-20?
-no, i think not. there are worse things u can buy.

all dslrs are kinda like the same... apart of specs of course. if u can operate one, u know how stuff work, it doesnt matter if u use a nex or a compact or a dslr...

btw, the bokeh shallow dof effect has nothign to do with the camera. go google on it...

i can do it with a compact, my handphone, ur pentax. it doesnt have to be a nex.

Just do a test on NEX5 and K-X

First shot with NEX .2nd shot K-X

most useful camera is the one that u have, not the one lying on the shelves..

most important ingredient into making a good picture is the cameraman, not the camera or lens.

most important attributes of the cameraman is his knowledge about his equipment and know what he can achieve with it.

most important thing u need to do know is learn the basics of photography.

last but not least,

most shops/promoters know how to manipulate the mind of ordinary buyers on the spot,
but the truth will only be revealed when one has bought the equipment and used it for some time.
