Dear seniors, can kindly advise if you guys prefer to use sling for Tripod or place the tripod into proper bag for protection?

I have seen some ppl hanging the tripod with slings on their shoulder but seems like alot of 'pointing' parts..

I have tried searching for more info on tripod bag price which can fit Manfrotto 055CXPRO3, can anyone please give advise?

Thanks thanks!

I think it's up to individual preference. A sling would be easier to 'take out' your tripod. For me I feel that a tripod bag would conceal your tripod properly but a sling would be more convenient.

lol some people carry in hand...
its personal preference
if u wan tripod bag check out thinktank?
they may have

yup . . . personal preference . . .

see which is convenient to you. :)

i thought all tripod comes with a bag ?

matter of preferences, i saw many people use tripod bags, use a sling, attach it to their bags(those bags that have tripod holders), or even handcarry them at MRTs.

i use the tripod bag, to me easy access is not an issue, i know i'm gonna set up my tripod immediately out of nowhere in MRT, especialy because some parts of tripod is "pointy" i might disturb someone if the MRT is crowded, on the shooting destination i will strip of the tripod bag and put it inside my camera bag and hand carry the tripod.

As previous CSers have commented, it is a matter of personal preference.

I prefer using a bag as it keeps the tripod clean and relatively dust free. It also stops me from inadvertently poking people with a stray leg or two.

Manfrotto also sell a number of bags to suit various tripod sizes and I have two, one for my tripod (055CXPRO4) and another for my light stands. They are not cheap but are of very sturdy ballistic nylon in black with red detailing. They both have a shoulder strap so you can carry them easily. They also come with a hard top to the bag so the tripod head is afforded some protection.

In contrast, I bought a Slik tripod that came with a bag, but after one trip out, I managed to lightly catch the bag on an escalator and tore a tiny hole in it, definitely not the same quality as the thicker Manfrotto bags.

I think I purchased the smaller tripod bag for around AU$50 when I was in Sydney.

SeldomHere

next time won't need to carry ur tripod le.. will auto extend from ur camera~!! just press a button...

now also can la, hire a caddie to carry.. like golfer get them to carry clubs... :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Well it really depends on how you shoot, and what you shoot. If you have in mind what to shoot, probably you will be walking to the spot and spend a little time to set up (given that you have the luxury of sufficient time), then a tripod bag will be good. If you are the sort who looks for the right moment, that will call for quick deployment of your tripod and in that case, a sling will fit your bill.

A tripod bag will be good for travelling, especially if you want to use it as a hand-carry luggage. It may seem a little obtrusive if you want to use it with a sling. And if I'm not wrong, some bros here once said that an exposed tripod may not get it through the customs.

Think its up to you lah.For me i hand carry cos can whack those ppl's legs who wanna cut queue in boarding MRT and also can immediately set up once i'm at my location:)

Like what the rest have mentioned. Its really a personal preference. There isn't a right or wrong way to go about this. For me, i use a tripod bag and i attached it to my bag. :)

Doesn't seems to help.

It's pretty much a preference, since you have pointed out that the tripod has a lot of protruding parts, you may not want to sling it or hand carry it.
You may want to put it in a bag designed for tripod since a 055CX is extremely long folded and hardly any bag pack can hold it.

kidding only.. SOrry la.. just quite weird la.. cos tripod this kinda thing quite personal choice la..

in fact everyone has agreed that its their personal choice...

sling or a tripod bag?
how about a slinging tripod bag? i made my bag out of my old army pants and sling it over my shoulder across my back.

it can be swung forward like a rifle and unzipped. and tripod taken out with 1 hand.

Nice! But don let the authorities find out! Haha!

I carry a bag. Tripod in the bag will also protect your tripod from scratches.

But it's more of user preference, so it's your choice. :)

I'd prefer a sling.

With a sling, you can set up the tripod a lot faster, though mud and dirt from the tripod legs might dirty your clothes.

Up to personal preference in the end ...

I am using Sling too. Faster to use. I feel that if i put in the bag, i won't want to use it often. If in the bag, I would hesitate to use it when I feel hand held should be good enough. In fact if tripod is use, the picture will be much much better because hand shake is eliminated.

I use a bag because I want to protect my investment. If I were to sell it later, it would have a better chance of being in a good condition.

Thanks for all the valuable replies. Yup, the 055CX is quite long folded as you had mentioned, maybe for this i think the bag would suit me better in thinking to protect it from dust and bangs, and also storage in my car booth as i oftenly dumped and squeezed alot of things in it, including baby pram.

Guess bags for tripod not cheap bah, haiz.. if only my old school badminton racket cover can fits. :bsmilie:
