Hey peeps, I will be going on a youth expedition trip to Shanxi province, changzhi town from 9 Oct to 26 Oct. Any advices on taking care of my gears when I'm there? I understand the weather will quite dry and dusty at the area.

In Oct the weather should be dry and dusty. These are hostile conditions for your equipment as there is no way to escape the fine yellow particles thrown up. Keep your gear in a bag zipped up and take out only when shooting. Or else the dust will find its way into your D90 some how. There will be dust everywhere.

You will be going to a province with great historical significance. Enjoy yourself.

Thanks Bro! Do i need to bring any ziplock bags to stuff my cam? Just in case?

If you use a bag that zips up completely it should be fine. Something like a Tamrac Velocity 7.

If you use a ziploc bag, are you going to put it all into a proper bag? Then when you want to shoot you got to take it out of the bag and then the ziploc. Important thing is to take the camera out only when you are to shoot. Don't walk around with it hanging around your neck etc.

Shanxi is a very nice place filled with alot of history.;)

if possible, try to visit other area in Shanxi..:)

dont keep changing lenses............ decide what is going to sit on your camera that day and live with it no matter what

usually a wide to tele zoom will do fine eg 15-85 is usually enough for the entire trip

I visited Shanxi Xian 2 weeks ago.
The Nikon 50mm f1.4D is the only lens that I bring along. It works beautifully especially in the dim display hall of the Terracotta Museum.:thumbsup:
The Terracotta Museum is awesome. I went with much anticipation after reading so much about it in National Geographic.

Thanks guys for the advices! I will be bringing Tokina 12-24, 16-85 and 50 F1.8 for my trip. Will post some photos when i'm back from my trip ;)

More than agreed; its provincial capital, Xi'an (known as Chang'an historically), was the capital of more than 10 Chinese Dynasties including the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties.
