I was wiping my canon 1000d viewfinder with a cotton bud, and i guess i wiped it too hard and there was scratches. Now it is hard for me to manual focus as the viewfinder is very blur. Any way to remedy or change? and how much would it cost to change or go to service centre? ur help is very much appreciated

It could not be scratches if you're using only cotton bud. Perhaps it's smudges. To remedy it, use a lint free cloth available from Home-Fix. Dip into some IPA and clean it again.
It it won't go away, the last remedy is to bring it in to a service centre and change it. It won't cost much, at most a few dollars.
I used a cotton bud with the plastic stem...then i used a lens cleaner...so i guess the cotton bud was wet and it became thinner....thus the stem was able to scratch the viewfinder. Anyway tanx a lot dude. Hope it wouldnt be ex to change the viewfinder. Besides service centre, are there any third party shops thatdo sevicing?

This one needs some alignment so it's advisable to go service centre. Actually if it doesn't affect your pics then don't be so bothered by it. However, if it is still under warranty, then you might want to try your luck and change it.

u will get scratches. its quite easy to scratch. i totally screwed mine up. just send to replace bah. thats wad i did. u cant save it
I just scratched mine too... :cry:
I was replacing one... and chose to do it at like 2-3am.. my tweezers scratched the upper right corner... :cry::cry:
But I am going to stay with mine. Doesn't affect anything.. and it is only in the upper right corner... and my focusing screen is a little more ex, around $100...

Bro, you were CHANGING yours lah... he was just cleaning his. Back to TS's question: Actually if there are particles on smooth surface, best to use blower to get them off first, before wiping on them also. Otherwise you wipe and press on these hard particles, they will also scratch your surface.
The first one, the rectangular glass facing downwards to the mirror. That's where the image is projected at and where it appears sharp when in focus. Everything else on top up to the opening where you look into is just the image reversing system (pentamirror or pentaprims).

hi all bro. recently found out that my viewfinder has 1 hairline scratch, the scratches locate at the glass outside the camera, above the LCD screen. where our eyes look into the viewfinder that glass. does it really matter if this outer layer glass is scratched? as sometime our sweat , dust will easily dirty this outer layer glass. anyway to clean or prevent?
Not for the image. The rest is personal preferences. Some people can get very itchy about cosmetically and irrelevant details, though.
Clean with cotton bud and maybe tissue. You can check for the eyepiece extender, but still there is one part that will get in touch with your eyebrow. Unless you use lifeview and walk around like all those PnS shooters with camera at arm's length. :bsmilie:
IPA = Isopropyl Alcohol is available from pharmacy at 70% concentration. It is useful for removal of Lipophilic compounds aka lipids. Do not use it on LCD screens as it can mar the plastic surface. Very useful on camera body and glass surfaces.
