Over the past few years, during the 7th Lunar Month (Hungry Ghost Festival), there have been many people going to shoot Getai performances.
This year, I think there are still who wants to shoot the Getai performances..

An Getai insider told me to remind photographers these things when they go shooting..

Here are some things that you can take note of:
- Some Getai do not encourage people to take photos.
- If strange things happened (power trip, rain, mic no volume etc.) while snapping photos, please respect by stop shooting (a belief that "good brothers" are not happy).
- If nobody is sitting on the first row (but have chairs), try not to stand right in front to snap pics.

Something worth taking pics..
Ming Zhu sisters may be having their last year on stage as a pair (maybe you can try snapping shots of them together on stage).

GOOD LUCK!!! :D

hmm... are there other Dos and Don'ts of photography of the events/things/rituals that will take place during this 7th month?

The others don't really involve member of the public..
BUT don't sit on the 1st row..

Or for those bring ladder go event one...
don't put ladder in front of first row block every body.

Actually Getais are staged for their viewing sort of an annual leave
to them so whether one believe or not take no chances.

I'm always amazed as to who was the first person who came out with all these suggestions.

why the ghosts only sit in the first row?

why the ghosts only sit in the first row?

I belive they are all over the place it is just that the best (ie 1st row) is reserved for them as they are the VIPs and make sure no one is blocking them watching the show.

IIRC in the past Wayang which is before Getai are stage for the 'good brothers' snice then they have already reserve the first row for them. Nowadays as Getai replaces the Wayang (modernisation:think:) they still continue the tradition of reserving the first row for the 'Good Brothers'.

my goodness, now have time table slots........

They are not suggestions. They are advices.

U can choose to ignore but you would have to face the consequences.;(
