Hi , just a quick question/ recommendation. Im going to bali in september and was wondering which telephoto lens would best suit me in terms of travel photography, mostlikely taking pictures of birds and villages on mountians .

Thanks

70-200 f4L wins hands down legs down everything down haha. Just short of that 100mm but you a faster lens and much better build+ image quality.

My pick will be the 70-200mm f/4.

Both lenses don't have a focal length for wide angle

you'll have problem with landscape, unless you do a pano and stitch.

Actually I just came back from Australia trip using a 70-200mm lens... yep it is a great lens, got alot of good photo... but as bro dingaroo had said... the wide aspect is really lacking.

I would recommend a wide lens and 70-200mm for your trip.

What's your current set-up?

Im using a 500d

Lenses that im brining:

-50mm f1.8
-18-55mm
- 10-22mm

So im just looking to rent either the 70-200 or 75-300

Of coz the 70-200 F4L if price is no concern..

Ha thanks for the replys guys, any thoughts abt using extenders with it? The one where it can double the focal length

I'd go with a 70-200. Can also pair it up with a 1.4 extender.

i hv a 70-300IS. At 200mm, it's already at f/5.6... if u r not taking fast moving objects and light is sufficient, it should be ok.

i hv played with my friend's 70-200 f/4... the quality is much better, and u have the advantage of fixed f/4.

imho, go for the 70-200mm f4, with IS, if possible

75-300 cheap and good!

I would go for 1.4x instead of 2x since 2x the image degrade would be obvious. 1.4x the IQ degrade is more acceptable.

If you are richer: get the sigma 50-500 LOL (just joking).

If you're renting, then get the 70-200 IS
If you're buying, I would go with the 75-300 if you need the range
