Cathay photo have an offer for this combo.

190xprob for $183. And you can buy the 496RC2 for $92 if you buy the 190xprob. Very very good deal.

hedgehog,

Go down to Cathay Photo with your heaviest gear and try the various tripod heads to go with the 190XPROB. That way, you can not only find the right tripod head to go with the heaviest gear you have, but also know which specific model of tripod head you can go hunting around in the open market for.

Cheers!

Wow... Just now went funan walk to check out the tripod.. been reading much on the SIRUI carbon fibre.. decide to get the T-1204X/T-2204X.. But reached funan at 2010hur, damn... tkphoto close.. asked the salemans if i could just go in and buy and FO.. but he refuse.. he still have some customer inside i could see.. nvm...
The main thing is, i walked around and went into some BROTHER shop and looked around.. saw the T-1004X and i tot it was the T-1204X as the salesman told me it is made of fibre.. below is my conversation between me and him..

Me:Hi, can i know what is the price of this set of tripod..
Salesman: Hi, $299.. Fibre tripod..
Me:Wow... (thinking in my mind, "wa, cheaper by tkphoto so much?" as i checked the price on tkfoto facebook before i went down, but forget the model number.)
Salesman:If you really want, i can sell you at $245 as we are closing soon at 2030hur..
Me:Ok lor, i want it with G20 head can?
Salesman:Sorry, we only sell it as a whole set.. This one can hold a 7KG load..
Me:Hmmm, nvm then.. I'm a bit worry as the max load is only 7KG.. Thank you
Salesman:Wait, what camera you using?
Me:500D
Salesman: Chey, i tot u using 7D or 1D mark III. Can de la.. Lense? 18-200mm?
Me:70-200
Salesman:........... Ok la.. plus everything is about 7kg.. also not 1D..

Moral of the story:please do enough homework before you go hunting for your gear. Nearly bought something which is not what i wan at a more expensive cost and will be damn angry with myself now..

PS:THank all the Clubsnapers that provide all these information.. Cheers! ;)

I think both benro and sirui are great budget choices.

Good thing you dodged a bullet.

If you are deciding between T-1204x and T-2204x, you do not have to consider already, just get the T-2204x. The T-2204x is an awesome tripod. If you thinking of just the T-1204x, then might as well save some money and just get the T-1004x.

U see, T-1204x only saves you 200+g. But what you really care about is the dampling. When I tested the T-1004x vs the T-1204x using the 2 finger test, I found the aluminium T-1004x actually damps the vibration better. This is consistent with the feedback from Shutterasia:

Traveller Series T-1004, an aluminium alloy model which, at 1.1kg, is only marginally heavier than the nearest Sirui carbon fibre equivalent. I also found T-1004's dampening quality to be as good as, if not better than the carbon fibre version. Dampening quality is the ability of the metal to absorb vibrations without letting it travel all the way up to the camera body (my own definition).

We discussed this before bro.. i m using this model now when i am not lugging my heavier Gitzo explorer on the move. Compact and versatile and reliable.. performs jus as good as Gitzo traveller but only a fraction of the price

I just bought 2204 and used at Marina bay. Lightweight to carry out, simple and fast setup.

In the end i got the R 1204 ? haha... due to the height and it is cheaper.. the R 2204 is sold out, muz wait till end of sept or early sept..

by the way, got a noob question to ask... how to make sure your horizon is straight when u mount the camera onto the tripod?

A few ways:

1) Use gridlines in viewfinder to guage.
2) Use spirit level
3) Use camera in-built level detector (only some advanced models of cameras have this).

Horizon is usually straight, unless there is lens distortion involved.

If you want horizon to be.... HORIZONTAL (sometimes referred to as 'level'), then do the steps that DD123 mentioned.

eh... any idea where can in get the spirit level? what type of shop shuld i go and try? any idea how much it will be?

Which ball head did you get ? ...There should be a small leveller on the R1204 to check the legs and maybe another on the mounting plate to check the cam.
