Macbook Pro 13" For PP

Hi all, i'm starting school next year and would be purchasing a new laptop. I'm actually considering the macbook pro 13" and the macbook 13".

if i were to install cs5 on either and do PP on it, would it be too taxing for the system?

at the most i would also use my macbook/macbook pro for movie viewing and word processing.

any brothers here can share their views and thoughts?

Certainly the MacBook Pro 13" can more than handle Photoshop and the demands of intensive PP.
Have no fear and I give you the reassurance.

yes yes i was also considering the 15" but its a hefty price to pay for the awesome i5 processor! sigh, definitely will wait for school to start then make my purchase. actually hoping for a macbook with i5.

Alternatively, you can look at laptops running Windows. Don't overlook them. There are actually more powerful laptops around compared to the Macbooks in terms of hardware specs at the same price. It's only the OS that makes the difference.

of course! i'm also open to other options.. but i love the stability and sleekness all combined into one, that of a macbook! :bsmilie:

Either one can hlp on the PP but if you want the better performance and last longer go for 15" MacPro. best if u got the $$ go for Icore version rather then the C2D. But if the $$ is the concern then got for a macbook.

Above recommendation is best retro fit with 4G RAm. Anything less might not have the best performance. Currently im using C2D macbook with 4G ram and recently upgrade my harddisk to 320 WD black HD. Run on CS5 with not lag on PP power.

i would still prefer a windows laptop though, because apple macbooks are just overpriced, imho.

and please, don't get the aluminium body rubbish, i keep getting electric shocks from that, because it's NOT GROUNDED, despite having a metal casing. talk about forking out big bucks for a product that can't fundamentally solve simple, basic issues.

It's not an issue, it's an Apple special feature! It's the "wake up tazer" to make sure you stay awake and productive! That's how they solve the "making you more productive" marketing cr@p. :angel:

I get what you mean.
There are so many problems that are simply denied, hoping it will go away.


Without bashing Apple, I think recent products are not getting their
detailed attention as they used to.


But, do note that for photography, Apple screen is one of the best
( at the price point ) in the market. Look at colour gamut and max contrast....Only Sony and Dell has something close, but at much higher
price.

Apple battery life ( comparing the same processor ) is the best too.
As they use special designed batteries that aren't available outside.


I hate Apple OS.

Mbp 13" can definitely handle photoshop, but would not recommend it due to glossy screen.

but if you are really serious about your pp,
perhaps the mbp 15" (anti-glare) would be better.
the reflection from the glossy screen on 13" will be a chronic pain in the neck when editing. srsly!

and yeah 13" does not come with the option for anti-glare screen.

The Dell 27" IPS panel is better than the apple display, and cheaper than a 24" apple display.

well, if you used the older os... they have this problem that i have seen.

you can edit all your things with photoshop, then suddenly, when you use SAVE TO WEB, even with all the color settings being right, there will be color shifts in the web version.

this was solved later on, of course..

is very sad, i get zapped all the time, and i don't even use it.. it's because the owner likes to leave her laptop near my mouse area when she's not using it....... :cry:

You might have a very solid foundation with well "grounded" contact or you have a electric personalities that attract the slighest electrical pulse.

The newly launched IMAC is certainly very solid in performance and price is definitely very competitive compares to a mac laptop. But no portability of course.

I've owned several macs (incl the current macbook pro and imac) along the way but never a macbook (or ibook). As far as I remember, while browsing to buy one, I felt the macbook screen just a tad 'not as nice' as the one on the pro. I really can't put it in words. Basically, I felt the extra paid was worth the few differences in spec.

But that said, I ended up with a 15". After using the previous 15" aluminium, I thought I'd want to try to downsize to a 13". But while comparing side-by-side at the shop, there's no way I was going to feel as comfortable using the smaller screen - especially for some 'heavy' work like PP.

I have an imac and seriously, if you don't need a laptop to lug around to school, consider one of these. Buy the basic one (get a RAM upgrade tho), just under 2k and you get a brilliant machine which will take on your toughest PP work and probably will last you 3 to 4 years.

Just my experience and 2cents.

Editing photos even on a 15" feels cramped so you may also want to think about getting an external monitor too.

okay wow thats alot of input while i was offline! okay i do most of my pp on my desktop which runs on win7 64bit and 4gb ram and i5. but because im going school and need a new laptop, i was thinking if the 13" was gonna suffice for cs5. it wont be for ALL my pp usage, but maybe a small minority.

If u have a desktop at home and 13" will be your portable usage, I think it should be fine. It should handle ps well if u max out the ram.

If the glossy screen bothers you, just get the Matt screen protector and generally solve some of the problem.
