$3,000...your vacuum may be a gold plated collector's edition.
Don't tell me it is an Electrolux sold by door to door canvasser.
Yes, they have scary profit margins to make it worth while marketing it this way.
Some one tried to sell me one. I just could not afford it.

I bought a $50 vacuum brand new recently.
A sale. Made in China Rowenta.
Does the job, lah..... no complaints.

Better Vacuum cleaner do help in reducing allergy reactions to dust/dust mite.

Whether it's worth or not... you have to decide yourself.

Yes, my house is using one RAINBOW, ya costly purchase but really cleans well. Got rid of all the dust and germs effectively. In my opinion, normal vaccum cleaner will never be able to do that.

Whether its worth the money, its always up to you. Weighing pros and cons comparing is only one factor. Go down to their office, and let them show you how it works. At the end of the day, you decide.

From goggle search on wikipedia:

This system, known as "The Rainbow Opportunity", still remains to this date. Direct marketing of vacuum cleaners is often associated with unsolicited door-to-door sales. Rexair's independent distributors and their independent dealers use direct marketing techniques such as door to door lead generation, the use of referral gathering, and trade and home shows to get majority of their leads. Once a lead(name and contact information of prospect) is generated then the salespeople will attempt to contact this lead to schedule an appointment to show the Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner. A prospect is offered a gift for their time and no purchase of the Rainbow is necessary. Rexair teaches sales and marketing techniques through corporate distributor developers and through training seminars. The CEO Paul Vidovich and his staff also travel the world educating distributors on becoming more successful in the Rainbow business. Rexair manufactures sales promotional tools and sells them to their independent distributors. The main promotional tool they advocate is "Talent Scouting" which is recruiting another salesperson to join an organization. The recruiter can make money off the people they recruit similar to multi-level marketing strategies.

During its 80 year history, Rexair has manufactured only nine models of the Rainbow.

As guessed.
Another soso product where the only notable invention is the MLM marketing technique and ridiculously high profit margins.

Sorry, but how did you judge the effectiveness of the vacuum cleaner in dust and germs removal? I'm interested in buying a good VC too.

M using Rainbow too got tat 2 yrs back hmm no complaint since then till now. Think they have this mattress hitter and the aircon cleaner.

Used the mattress hitter every 2 months to clean the mattress for dust mite, although felt the pinch at first but guess its worth it till now no regrets on that as family's health are more important especially when u have little ones at home.

Thats my 2 cents cheers hope TS found it useful

At the end of the day its the consumer to decide if its worth the $$ not.

PS: I am not related to Rainbow just wanted to share my experience that all

go harvey norman walk around, they have also those vacuum cleaner that is suitable for those who have allergy to dust or have asthma.

cost about $600-$800.

$3000 is ridiculous...

Seriously i feel conned having read all the negative feedbacks about this kind of product.. particularly the brand i bought..

some of you using Rainbow brand and seems satisfy with it.. but mine is Delphin..
i'm not sure about it but most feedbacks i read thru other forums really discourage me especially the after sales service.
I just hope this product is really reliable or at least help my baby with his eczema problem which according to doctor related to dust mite allergic.

any of you using Delphin brand?

if a product is a world beater and proven dust mite remover.
ways would have been found to make it universally available and cheap.
competitors would have copied it and tried to reverse engineer at much lower price.

health authorities world wide would pass regulations demanding dust mite vacuums to be used in all homes.

But some special vacuum cleaner companies seem to have the same marketing pattern.
MLM element.
insist on home demonstrations.
scary high profit margin.
refusing to sell through normal channels of electric appliance stores or big retail stores like harvey norman, best denki, courts.....

cannot say it is a con.
A can sell to B a 5cent-cost item at a selling price of $100,000. If B somehow was convinced that it is worth that kind of money and buys it. No crime has been committed.

it is an example of good salesmanship.

To me, those vacuum cleaner which they said it's for *blah blah blah* and can kill whatever, I doubt it.
All I see after using is just dust collected.

A doc told me that to stop all these allergy, is to sun your pillows under the natural sun and use a normal vacuum cleaner to suck all the dust from the pillow.
It's simple. ;)

Not sure about others' thought... :dunno:

After some research, i found out that normal vacuum cleaner might not be sufficient. Dust particles and other micro-organisms might be too small to be stopped by the dust collection bag in the cleaner. Thus, you're effectively sucking out the dirty stuff and spewing it out the other end of the vacuum cleaner. Vacuum cleaners that can trap such microscopic particles are those that have HEPA filters. Gonna buy myself one. :)

What I like about about the Rainbow VC is that it uses water to trap all the dust & dirt and it doesn't require any sort filter change. Is also quite lasting, 20 years and still going strong.

I read an allergy pamphlet at a hospital that says water based vacuum cleaner are not particularly effective. Forogt why though.

yes brother, my vacuum cleaner less than $300 already got HEPA filters, dont need to spend crazy price like $3000 to get one. smaller havery norman might not have many models to choose, try bigger one like Harvey @ millienia walk, bukit timak or Best Denki at IMM. they also have higher end cleaners.

i pretty happy with karcher, link here :
