Canon 550D

Hi,

Newbies reporting, thanks to the wealth of information in this forum, I have managed to narrowed down that Canon EOS550D meets my needs and stays within my budget.

Went to a shop to check out the current price and was offerred S$1,600(includes GST) for the EOS 550D kit II - 18-135mmIS len with free 8gb SD card and EOS bag.

Is this a good deal currently?

agree... you won't be saving much if you go around hunting, unless $20-30 difference means a lot to you. $1600 seems reasonable with that lens (note: it's lens, not len) combo.

Prices change every now & then. Could be more, could be less. Could be many freebies, could be less. If you want to monitor till the best price with best freebies, I can say that you'll end up with no camera.
So, just work within your budget & buy with peace of mind

i would rather deal with reputable shops.

Be wary when they try to sell you add-ons like filters, wide angle converters at marked up prices. Read the threads at the Consumers Corner for some of the dodgy sales tactics of some shops.

1) sometimes serial number on camera and serial number on warranty card don't match.
2) ditto for the lens
3) they might harass you into getting extras, or claim that some things that should normally be included in the package (like charger) are chargeable items.

check package to make sure charger there, battery there, all accessories that you need there.

if don't need, then never mind, but essential things like battery better be there.

to be honest, to avoid such things, don't gamble, just get from the better shops. if the price is the same, why take the risk?

ya, my advice is to get from shops like MScolor, CP and those reputable shops.

Gotten my 550D with 18-135mm 3 mths ago from MS Color @$1600.
Happy with their service, can look for Uncle Harry from AMK Hub.
Hope this helps to poison you a little bit.
