Hi everyone =P

I am new to this. Hope you guys can help me out. Do any of you guys know where in Singapore can I find antique cameras?! I am planning to buy one as a birthday present for my hubby. Have no clue where to start! Please advise me!

Thanks a million!

Thanks a lot for the really quick reply Cleonbus!! I really appreciate it.. I will check that place out.. :)

Was just wondering, do you think Sungei Road is a good place to check out as well?

Thanks!

This question is not even valid. There's no camera shop! I don't think it's worth having a look at Sungei Road. You may try the other shop in Peninsular Shopping Centre and the one opposite (not sure if it's called Plaza or what, but the one where Cathay Photo is located)

she might be refering to the flea market? (i hope not...)

lol sometimes sungei road have la. the thieves market lol.

Basement of Peninsula Hotel shopping center (same building as the Camera Workshop) is Cam.X, theyhave lots of older 'antique' cameras..............

HS

35mm or medium format or large format ?

For 30-60 year old cameras I would rather see and test it first hand than buying online.......... UNLESS the online seller has a consistent reputation of selling top-notch reliably restored merchandise

If purely for decoration purpose and not for shooting I will suggest getting a folding medium format camera (eg a Agfa Isolette with with bellows and all) ..... truly beautiful

Or a russian Iskra

google Folders Medium Format ...... there are ALOT of older vintage cameras selling in Singapore at excellent prices

or even the Zeiss Super Ikonta series of medium format folders

No, you don't want to go there...
I tried a few times to see whether there is anything worth looking at... but the condition in which these cameras are ranges somewhere between disaster and tragedy. All of them need repair and replacement, all look really haggard. Lenses full of fungus (good for demonstration, though), displays scratched, shutters not working (or working at some speed but not what you set on the dial), you name it ... I have given up to find something usable there. I have seen a couple of 2nd hand markets in Germany, but there were at least a fair amount of articles still usable without extensive repair.
TCW seems ok to me and then there are a few shops in Adelphi (K-13, iirc) selling 2nd hand stuffs. Might have more luck there. But do some homework and eBay research to get an indication of market rates.

Thank you so much guys!!! You have all been really helpful!!! I am religiously writing down all the places you guys have recommended.. Will be visiting them this weekend =)

I went to eBay.. The pony premo cameras look really beautiful.. Especially with its wooden boxes. Do you think I can find such cameras in the shops you recommended?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Mich

i have seen some old cameras at Ron Camera at the Adelphi, don't know if its antique or not.

Hey! Thank you so much for your help! I am now also thinking of getting the Agfa =P

Go to Chiif cameras. He may just sell you one of the antique cameras in the collection or you can buy one of those antique look alike cameras that still works and comes with 1 year warranty. Actual address and contact number at www.chiifcameras.com.

Cheers,
