Hi,

I'm glad i just purchased a white k-x (and i'm proud of my 1st DSLR camera) today from SLRR today. I guess i can't surpress my urge so i bought a kit lens 1. Now i found out 55mm lens a bit too short range for me. Should have bought a kit lens3 (300mm) one. Now i need a comparison from all the pros here whether i should get a 200mm or 300mm lens in future?? I'm more into landscape.

And another last thing is i tried to use AF at 1 object (close up object) but at some point, it keeps focusing in and out and i cant seem to take photo of it. Even i tried 1AF or multi AF also cant help much. Whats wrong with it?? Is it because of low light??

Welcome to Pentax. :)
You should have gotton kit 2 or 3. Either one is very value for money & not to mention the kit lens are pretty sharp & are better than competitive brands' kit lens. ;p

If you are not into Nature/birding shoot, 50-200 lens is enuff.

Most probably you are too close to the object which is out of the minimum focusing distance of the kit lens. Think it's 25cm if I'm not wrong?
If you are not, then it could be too dark or you are focusing on an non contrasty area.

haha welcome, but dont be so proud, it's just a camera..

yeah i wanted to get a white kx but they dont come with kit lens 2. Guess i need to get a 200mm in 2 months time. But is there a better lens out there but cheaper than the DA200mm??

Yeah i was actually shooting the object nearer about 10cm away.

haha welcome, but dont be so proud, it's just a camera..

Yeah though its just a camera, but i'm totally excited abt it and i had read much good reviews about kx as well. :D

by the way thanks evolutioner for the pm! :D

Welcome and hope you enjoy your stay here. Both the 50-200 & 55-300 are equally good, just buy one that suit your budget.

Actually if you are into landscape, a ultra wide angle would suit your need more :)

Haha! Go get a 18-200mm or 28-200mm zoom lens as your walkabout or multipurpose lens lah... Save you the hassle of changing lens between the 18-55mm and the 50-200mm. Then add on the prime lens to suit your purpose and style.

Welcome. And get the 55-300, it's a better lens than the 50-200 or any mega zoom lens (18-250 or 28-300), one of the better zoom lenses Pentax has in their lineup right now.

As to AF hunting, it only happens when the light isn't bright enough or the scene is lack of contrast. Make sure you focus on something more contrasty.

Join our monthly outing, those more experienced guys can guide you through better than the manual ;)

Cheers and happy shooting.

part of the joy of having a dslr is the ability to change lens to suit the environment and your shooting style  its not a hassle at all.

TS, i would suggest that you take your beautiful white K-X out and explore the limits of the 18-55 first, determine your shooting style (portraits? landscape? macro?), then decide on what lens to buy next. :D

there's no "best lens"... only what best suits your style :)

Welcome to pentax

I will suggest 55-300mm If u really want longer reach . But again , the 50-200mm is so compact that you can always bring it out anytime anywhere

:)

Welcome to the Rebellion! You are with the Light side!
For a beginner, i would think the 17-70 would be more appropriate. Not that big and sufficient zoom for general use.:)

Gee airconvent, the Star Wars rebellion metaphor that you use so often is frankly starting to wear thin. Same with the dark side / light side depictions. Now that you also use Sony you're no more a rebel but... a defector???

Pentax users aren't rebels or on any particular side, we just want to Be Interesting.

hehe, pentax might be his wife but sony is his mistress. :)

wow..
Anyway, Sony is also part of the Alliance if I continue the metaphor, something like Ewoks.
haha Just dislike that others refer to us as the "dark side" when we are so enlightened.

In any case, I still have my entire Pentax system. No intention to switch to Sony DSLR. In fact I was at the Pathlight Charity Event tonight in full Pentax colours and Pentax K7. The Sony stays as my PnS. :) Surprised there is so much interest in my other gear in the Pentax forum even though I avoided discussion here. In anycase, I take your cue,...my new catch phrase would be "Welcome to the Interesting ones!" .

hehe, pentax might be his wife but sony is his mistress. :)

More like Pentax is my mother earth and sony is the moon...(btw previously Fujifilm was my moon) :)
