I am currently having

Camera: D80
Lens: 18 - 135mm and 50mm f1.8
Flash: FB600

I am very interested in taking photo in event like cos-play.
i have saved for a while now. my budget is around 800.

Any advice on how should i upgrade?.
Should i get the lens 18-105mm VR?

if you're thinking of upgrading your 18-135 you can try Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.

First of all, why you need to upgrade?

Reach not long enough? Or your pictures too dark?

Identify the gap where you are missing in your photography before we can recommend you anything.

Analogy: U want to buy new underwear. Which one to buy? Bikini cut? G-string? Or diaper cut?

Let us know, on the first part. We don't care what underwear you like to wear.

As for the flash you own,i suppose its the SB600?Never heard of FB600 before...

No need to upgrade. Your current gear is already sufficient to cover a cos-play event. All you need to do is to know how to use the flash well, and how to get good pics using your camera setup.

buying new equipment is always nice
but as long as your budget allows for it and the new equipment will serve its intended function.

How comfortable are you with flash photography? If you are presented with a scene, are you confident of yourself to adjust the flash power and angle so that you get the appropriate flash coverage?

Do u meant to upgrade jus because u want to?

becos, based on what u have, its more than enough to get pretty good pics/coverage for an event like cos-play..

In terms of pic quality, there's no siginificant diff between the 18-135 and 18-105.
Unless u telling me u need VR, even so, i dun really deem tt as a upgrade..

U need to get perhaps a good diffuser for ur flash, tats all about i think u need..

And like what others recommend, brush up ur knowledge on Flash photography
