the electricity tariff for households will increase by 2.42%

Everything also increase. Tomorrow take public transport you'll all notice the increase too!

Sp service owned by our gov't.

hmm i am confused. Why does SP need to make SO MUCH profit, if it is a supposed to be a gov't service for us?

Don't be naive. There's no such thing as "so much" profit. ;)

i am okay with profit. I am just wondering if there is a need to make SO MUCH profit. Afterall, it is a gov't service? Don't we pay somewhat a tax towards maintaining that co?

This is a misconception. Our government has 'privatized' these entities, including utilities and public transportation companies.

However, who has shares in these privatized companies? Only they will know. I don't know anything...

never surprise me, we juz recevied angboa from them......:bsmilie:

i think our garment got mentioned before they allow them to make "abit" of profit, but not too much.... :bsmilie:

they themselves also say they have to make this amount... can't remember why they need to but seems like so that they can keep the tariff low/affordable or something... which is kinda funny when what they earn is from the tariff itself...

So what the point of asking/telling us to save electric/water when the price keep going north.:thumbsd:

they are idiots to not switch to oil. oil prices are much lower than gas... the reason why our prices are rising cause we are powered by gas burning. i cant wait till the day we get our nuclear powerplants.

hahahah... they giveth and they taketh. but whatever they take is more than what they give. not bad...

No profit how to fulfill their mission -

"OUR MISSION

We provide reliable and efficient energy utility services to enhance the economy and the quality of life."

When you turn on the aircon don't you think that we are not having a quality life that third world countries are craving for-

and to acheive their values - to satisfied the bank account of shareholders and top management need top notch salary to act with honesty, else they will be corrupted -

"OUR VALUES

Commitment
We commit to creating value for our customers, our people, and our shareholders.
We uphold the highest standards of service and performance.

Integrity
We act with honesty.
We practice the highest ethical standards.

Passion
We take pride and ownership in what we do. ( to find way to increase their salary)

Teamwork
We support, respect and trust each other.
We continually learn, and share ideas and knowledge."

it is always easy to increase profit if u have the power and also monopolized the market by increasing the "fee", customer have no say. eg transport.

it is very very difficult to increase profit by increasing productivity in a "company" that has already stretch the manpower, ie everyone multi-tasking. eg private company & mnc.

thought we are already "trained" on this kind of issues? if there is anything we singaporean are good in, its "just follow law".

I read in a local newspaper (should be wan bao or sin min)... MM Lee was asked isn't it good for the country if there are better opposition parties? He said yes. But he added that it is not the responsibility of the govt to make the opposition parties better....

a bit contradicting leh....

going back to the famous black cat and white cat analogy.. as long as the cat can catch a mouse, it is a good cat, irregardless whether it is a white cat or black.

so our govt should help to make the opposition parties to get stronger right?

Doesn't matter what source of electricity is the cheapest, they could beam down microwave energy in the form of wireless power transmission from space-based solar power generators for the next 5 billion years and you still have to Pay And Pay (acronym censored, courtesy of Clubsnap).

The increase in electricity tariff by Singapore Power (SP) is due to "higher capital and operating costs of power generation" while "the average fuel oil price over the last three months remained stable at about S$102 per barrel".

what happen to the "productivity to keep cost down" thingy? guess the campeign originator should review the campeign so that it dont make them look hippoo.

classic govt give a little (eg gst credits etc), "take back a lot" move.

when oil price goes up, they let transport operators up fare and electricity tariff go up.
when oil price goes down, i dun see any fare adjustment downwards and neither did electricity tariff go down. excuse is other costs increased.
then oil price up, everything go up.
its up up up up. except for salary which is down down down.
can even go cheaper, work faster and harder.
