Hi Andrew,

REad this posting from another member, ducky88.

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711689

Trutfully, if you want a specific model, why not a gitzo with a Photo Clamp head? Maybe cost around > $2.2k

First, of all, work out your own budget and take a look at what's available at the shops. But if you ask me for a recommendation, see the paragraph above. But do you wanna splurge $2.2k and more?

Cheers!

Now chill it OK? Don't be harsh on TS. He is asking a question. We "must" sit up and pay attention.

I am Person F and I say Velbron is also good. How? Budget wise all also can buy only scared you got no money to spend. :bsmilie:

Well if you feel this way why did you even post a reply? It would be better if you just keep quiet rather then shoot me in that way. I just simply posted a humble question wanting a few answers before i can continue researching.

For Benro tripod, "Jack006" is the best person to look for.

Just let him noe ur requirement n budget & he will advise

For a $500 budget might wanna consider Manfrotto?Benro has a thread in mass sales.Do a search...

And no,i am not shooting you.Just wanna let u know that there lots of tripod brands out there and telling you to do your own homework...

Hi andrewseow,

for your height and camera setup, i recommend you to get Manfrotto 055XPROB.

you may use the configurator to help you find your tripod + ballhead @ http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/news/site/manfrotto/cache/off/pid/16203/lang/en

I am using Manfrotto 055XPROB and 496 RC2 combination which can take max 6kg load weight.

Do check Cathy photo as they have promo for the model. Alternatively, you may also check with TK photo and REVO in Funan Centre. Just bring your camera setup along to test them.

Hope you'll find one of your choice soon.

Cheers mate. :)

For your budget, there are some very good tripods out there.

Best would be to take your gear to a few shops and try out various combinations. First, you need to be confortable with the setup. Second, more importantly you must be willing to carry it with you on your trips. Most often tripods stay at home, because its just too heavy to lug around.

Seriuosly I do agree with what cleonbus mean. Gettingyou will first need to have some thing in mind on which tripod you want. Also you will need to consider if that tripod can take teh weight of your equipment. So you will need to do some home work first.

As for cleonbus, please kindly take note of your tone. Know you have good intention but at times is how to bring forward those intention is very important that will make people around feel good.

Thank You.

For a $500 budget (+-100), what to get depends a lot on what you need and what you shoot.

My recommendations:

For light traveller tripod: Sirui T-2204X matched with Markins Q3T
For Macro work: Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT matched with Markins Q10
For landscape tripod: Manfrotto 055xprob with Markins Q10

If want to spend a bit less money, then replace the Markins heads with a similar one from Photoclam. Or save even more, get manfrotto heads or Sirui G20 heads. Remember the strongest your tripod can be, is equal to, the weakest part of your entire tripod setup. So no point buying a super strong gitzo, and match it with a cheap sirui G10 ball head.

On top of the tripods, I strongly you get an L-plate. If you decide to go for manfrotto heads which I use, it is kind of rare but you can get it from Camdapter. See it here.

And becareful of max weight ratings. Different companies state it differently. Some are very optimistically aggressive, while some are very conservative. You have to figure out how to spot who is which. Best is to go down to the store test it out. put weight on the top of the tripod by pressing down with one hand. And using another hand with 2 fingers, strike the tripod legs. See how the vibrations feel in your hand that is pressing down on the top of the tripod.

If you ask me what I am using? I am using all aluminium tripods. 190xprob+488rc2 is my main setup. When I travel, I use Sirui T-1004x+494rc2. The 2 setups combined cost me slightly less than $500. But then again, I do not have a 70-200/2.8 or 80-200/2.8. My heaviest lens is around 600g
