Just want to find out what's the most budget wide-angle len can I get for my Canon 550D?

Canon official website cheapest one is:

EF28mm f/2.8
$389.

What's your recommendation?

Thanks!

my vote goes to sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6. 28mm is hardly a wide angle on a crop body if u ask me

So that means smelly smelly also more than $500? :(

Me this poor poly student no such money. :(

Any cheaper alternatives?

Do consider the crop factor of your 550D - 28mm will give Field of View equivalent to 45mm - that's nearly a 'normal view'. Take your kit lens, compare with the focal length and field of view you get there at about 28mm. Not that wide, right? The cheapest wide angle is still your kit lens used at 18mm. Everything else will cost much more money.

Well said.

Thank you so much.

So if I really want, I should get something like 20mm?

Erm .. still your kit lens is wider with 18mm. Do you understand the focal length? If you want a lens with a wider field of view then your focal length must be shorter. That's the reason why people suggest the Sigma 10-20.

OH OH! Yah yah silly me. Sorry about it.

Probably the cheaper alternative is use a wide-angle converter?

u can invest on a second hand 10-22 canon lens. look ard in BnS

Gosh second hand also $800 over. :( Cannot afford. :(

400 bucks mostly u can get 2nd hand 17-85 mm canon lens... 1mm wider than 18mm..

You already have a kit lens? What's wrong with using the wide end of that (18mm)?
Wide angle adapters are extremely poor quality (flare, distortion etc). Any good wider-than-18mm lens is over your $500 budget (17-85 excluded because the 1mm diff is hardly noticeable).
I have seen the Sigma 10-20 going for close to your budget (ard $550 IIRC) -- perhaps you can post a WTB ad and see if anyone will let it go within your budget.
But really, if money is that tight, it might be a better I idea to wait till you have more cash. At $800-900, you will have a much wider range of options.

You probably want an ultra wide to see any substantial difference from your 18-55, which is considered wide already on the wide end. So you're looking at anything 12mm or wider on the wide end.

To answer to the question cheapest..It would be 18-55MM kit lens...

it's good relative to the price..

but if u want something more ordinary..do consider tokina 11-16mm f2.8..^ ^

:think:Why do you need to get a wide angle in the first place?

If you dun own a kit lens then go & get 1 in BNS @ ard SGD$100, still way below your budget.

save up money for the sigma 8-16mm lor, thats the widest non fish eye lens for APS-C DSLRs.
