how much does it cost to repair a car bumper

mine a rented car. dats the prob.

let your car rental company take care of it.
U got insurance from them right?
those that u might have to fork out 250 at most types?

Please tell me u did.

i recently bump my car into a tree...dumb me...any idea how much it would cost.

there is no big dent...its more of something like a crease form when you fold a piece of paper - the surface no longer retain it smoothness. I went to some 1 shop, they quote me less than 200.

Never repair a bumper before. dont wanna be chop.

that's about right. I cracked my bumper and i paid about that to get it handled.

i tink hav insurance. but im not too sure. it could hav been easily settled outside but the other party insisted to go to borneo. there goes my money that i saved for my new toys.

think u better give ur car rental company a call.
the last time something like that happened, because i was using someone's car.
I paid close to 3K for it.

I have a similiar experience with rented car. For insurance claim, usually you have to fock out if the repair is up to 3k. (see the contract you sign) I merely scratched the rear bumper of another car (can't rem model). At his workshop, his tech quoted $800 to replace with new one. I was in a hurry and did not have the time to seek 2nd opinion. It was just a minor scratch that does nothing other than reduce the aesthetic. However, I am at fault and after half an hour of haggling ,settled with $600 cash payment. The other party is so happy. Whether he did eventually changed the bumper I do not know.

So maybe it is a good idea to send it to Borneo. At least you know the repair cost is genuine and the money you paid is only for the repair.

There is a thread in onemotoring that has all the answers to bumper accidents issues.

For rental car, there will be an excess to cover in the event of accident. Sad thing is, Borneo quotation is mad. Their bumper sells for $400 plus. If you add in labour for fixing and spray painting, could round up to around $1K.

Unforunately the damage is quite serious as the bumper covers the panel, which often, hide the seriousness. Then again, the repair from the picture isn't going to be $10K.

Ignore the driver's request to go Borneo. Let the insurance settle. You pay the excess top. If the rental car company does not have insurance coverage, then you are in trouble. Get legal to settle with the rental company.

BTW which company did you rented the car from?

i rented from the first link dat i google for car rental. its from bedok reservoir view.

there is insurance. the statement in the agreement says that i am responsible for the first $3000 to $8000 (excess).
does dat mean that i will have to pay $3000 only for the other party car?

can i claim both costs for both car in this insurance and pay $3000 only?
currently the rented car is at a workshop now. repair cost is $600.

now the other party quoted mi a price of 10k.

the photo i uploaded is the one i banged into.

10k. i tink he wants to add a gold bumper.

That looks like more than just bumper damaged. I would think you let the insurance take care of it. You would still need to pay up till the excess which in my case is 3k.

Why don't you contact the guys from the link that I pasted above. There is a Vincent Ng who seems to be very familiar and offer sound advices.

could it be more than 3k the excess?

seriously I do not understand what is "first $3000 to $8000 (excess)". Mine was straight forward - first $3k. So I know anything lower than 3k will still be from my pocket. Anything more will be from insurance, regardless of the number of cars involved.

same. now im waiting for the rental company to send me down to the insurance company to get the insurance thing settled.

just wanna ask. is it possible that i claim both cars under this same insurance?
cause for now. i have to pay $600 for my rented car. and $3000 for the other party's car.

My understanding is the insurance covers both cars. But really, I am not an expert in this area and only using my own experience to help. So it is better you check with the insurance company when you visit them.

I would think you have jumped the gun and paid for the repair of the rented car. Anyway, see if the insurance will reimburse you with the $600.

Also, why do you need to be involved in the insurance claim? You just ask the rental company to send you an invoice for the amount you need to pay and let them take care of the rest.

wah bro, this 1 not bumper only leh. judging from the picture, boot also damaged, boot cover cannot close also?

My sunny gena the same thing before courtesy of a malaysian car. around 8k plus, replaced boot, knock boot compartment, fixed rear suspension alignment, new exhaust, new bumper + spray.

The worrying thing here is the wording of your insurance policy .. u have stated "the statement in the agreement says that i am responsible for the first $3000 to $8000 (excess)." That means that u may end up paying up to $8k.

How you claim against M'sia car? I am always very worried when driving near M'sian cars cos if accident and they run back to JB, then cannot find them. The M'sian car insurance company probably is not local too.

Easiest is to file an Own Damage claim. You end up with your premium going up and NCD gone.

Otherwise, look for workshop that does claims against Malaysia. They will settle everything for you. Becareful though, some of those kuku does not have insurance coverage. Then you "SWAY"

Since when there is such a term as excess $3000-$8000. The number should be fixed. If up to $8000, then good luck. Prepare to pay $8000.

The excess will cover for both vehicles. Whatever goes above the excess, the insurance will cover.

Try to convince the driver to go to your choice of workshop. The damage is serious, but not to the extent of $10,000. I know a workshop in AV that can do it cheap and good.

OT a bit:

care to share which company? i once rented a car from a company in bedok reservoir view also (http://www.rentcarsingapore.com/ or http://www.sgrentalcar.com/ )

everything went on smoothly, and when i returned the car, the person checked it out and noted no new damages. later that night, i received an SMS from the person, saying that he noticed fine scratches on the rear bumper upon "further inspection of the vehicle", blah blah blah, and sent me an invoice for $600. naturally i refused to pay and blacklisted this company.

be careful when dealing with this company, read the T&C carefully..(from the website, it seems that agent that dealt with me is no longer with the company..good for them)
