GF wants to buy me nikon p100 when i have a canon g9

I have a canon g9 and been using it for about a year.
recently my GF got a voucher and wants to buy me a P100.

If i do take the P100, I will be letting go the G9, but it seems online reviews and pricing show the G9 to be a better camera. I do however like the HD movie function for the P100.

shld I make the change or hold on to my G9? why?

voucher can buy other things? It doesnt make sense to change from G9 to P100 in my opinion. Like not much of improvement...

yea can buy other things, but the other camera there is the lumix fz-35.

as for other items, nothing that catches my eye, so will probably be on clothes, etc.

at least for HD movie, I will have a use.

If you are familiar with the G9 already and don't need more...then use the voucher to buy something else...like HDD storage to store your photos...2 compacts don't seem to be very fun in my opinion...

It's very hard to answer this sort of question, because the answer is not so straightforward.

It's sort of like asking "is an SUV better than a 4-door sedan?"
in rough terrain, for sure... but how about around town, or in a tight carpark?
I hope you get what I mean.

The G9 and P100 are both 'prosumer' style compact cameras. But each would have their own selling points. Depends what criteria you have.

jst that the store that the voucher is valid for, only has the lumix and p100 for cameras.
they have other dslrs but im not interested.

was drawn to the p100 cos of HD movie recording and CMOS sensor, which i believe is better over the g9's CCD.

but what i like about the G9 is higher megapixel and much smaller size

CMOS is not necessarily better than CCD. Different technologies... A lot of medium format digital backs still using CCD, does it mean they are inferior to DSLRs with CMOS sensors? :think:

exactly... so it's not so clear-cut which is the better camera, am I right?
