hi guys, i hv a few questions to ask about selling of my lens before i post a WTSell under the personal classifieds. hope someone can help me out.

1. there are 3 lenses i wanna sell, do i post each one separately under 3 threads or can i just post them together under 1 thread?

2. i'm not sure how much i should sell. besides the condition and all, just wanna find out if lenses depreciate in value alot? coz i don't wanna price them too expensively or cheaply.

thx for reading this :)

you can put all into one thread or three individuals threads, depends you want to sell all as one lot or three individuals sale.

if you have three threads, you can have a line state you have another lens for sale and insert the link of the other threads. this will help others to know as they might by interested on the other lens.

for price reference, please do a search in Buy and Sale of the same lens last done price.

and please also check out the discussion thread on Buy and Sale in clubsnap, you may pick up some tips and avoid some pitfalls.

hope this help.

as catchlights said, u can place in 1 thread or 3...

as for the price... it is really up to the seller. if you put too high, u may have a hard time selling. u you put too low, be sure of a great response... and ur lens will be sold in a flash!

i find that checking the general trend of prices people sell their lens for is a good guide. i understand that some people would post in B&S "fake" posts to push down the general trend of the selling price... so take a sampling, remove the top and bottom, say 10-20%, and average out the rest to get a general trend.

also, what i have found in Singapore is that most people would ask for "best price" or to bargain down the list price... :bsmilie:

whatever the price is... it is important to honor it...

1. You can do either.

2. You can sell at the price you desire too. Market forces will determine if your price is attractive or not.

Blur Shadow said it correctly. You are not forced to sell at a certain price simply because everybody else sell at X dollar. Value of lenses don't depreciate especially the older SLR which are full frame. The optics are also sharper hence the value. If yours is the older SLR lenses then keep it. I'm using a 25 year old Nikkor prime lens on D700 and will never trade with anyone for a newer lens.

and watch out for tell-tale signs of 'fussy' buyers. being fussy is ok, but expecting something that's absolutely mint and out of the box condition when u've listed the item that's 1yr old (for eg) and then the cheeky bugger demand a discount is just incredible. Good thing u can spot these guys a mile away and prep urself. Its usually the guys who'd SMS u over and over again about things which you've already stated. And they'll do a million test shots before deciding. sigh. Luckily its only like a 1/5 potential buyers. most of the stuff ive sold to are the non-fussy ones and i usually end up giving discounts anyway or bundled with some freebie cos of the pleasant dealing experience.

good luck for your sales though.

If you're not sure about the price, see the prices other people put up for the same lens and adjust yours according to the condition, warranty, bonuses (like filters) etc
and this is unrelated but every single lens in BnS is a "sharp copy" haha.

thx guys for the responses, i really appreciate!

hotwork77 : mine's not full frame, i'm intending to sell my 50mm f/1.8 II (lotsa threads for that i know!), 50mm f/2.5 compact macro and the 18-55mm kit lens :)

xployd : seriously, i hope i don't meet fussy buyers like that. so its like what, they'll ask to meet up and test a million times then say they don't wanna buy? :-o

Deal at a place convenient to you....

yeah, do at a place of your own convenience. not worth it going halfway across singapore for someone to test but not confirming anything. haha

omg someone help me pls, i'm drowning in all the sms-es!! i didn't know the responses would be so good. immediately after i posted up ads for my 3 lenses, there must be at least 20 sms-es. what do i do now? suppose if 3 or 4 ppl wants to view the same lens, do u arrange to meet everyone at the same place/same time? or how do i deal with it? first come first serve?

for me, I will select the potential buyer willing meet me at my convenient place with the earliest timing.

no reservation,
if no show no respond after appointment confirmed will be blacklisted
cash term,
bring your own body and CF card,
item sold at it is.

and no personal warranty

that's y it is better to choose a place that is convenient for you, i.e. within walking distance from your house or working place etc. ask the potential buyer to call you or sms you when they reach/about to reach, then only you go down.

yes, ask them bring along their own camera to test the lens, and ask them to check properly before leaving.

yes, I will only meet potential buyers at my blk.. If I buy things, and if I buy some things, I will meet the sellers at their convenient place and time.

and yes, ask them to bring their own camera body and memory card to test the items you are selling, you don't want them to come back to look for you after the deal, telling you that have focusing problem or not compatible or whatever issue right?

better to post under 3 separate threads.

base it on past sales, just do a quick search, and base it on seller description, photos if any.

if don't have such to gauge, just sell whatever price you wish to sell it for. there are no absolute figures in the second-hand market. and don't sell it for anything lower.

of course, must be realistic, if you buy the lens for $400 and expect to sell it for $500, unless the lens has risen to $600 now you can just post up ad for $500 and wait for people to laugh at you...
