Share with us your lens collection. From the most used to the least used and why you buy this lens for (purpose) and why was it underused! :bsmilie:

I start off with mine:

35mm f1/4 L - This is my most favourite lens now till i neglected all other lens! I shoot everything on this lens now basically. From landscapes to protraits to cat photos haha

17-40mm f4 L - This is my second most favourite lens my favourite before my 35 came along. Previously used it for my walkabouts and travels. Now only used it when i travel or when i need to shoot wide angle.

50mm f1/4 (OM Zuiko) - I have keen interest in MF lens... previously used a CZ 50mm f1/4 and simply loved it! My current OM Zuiko still cannot fight with the CZ lens i previously owned but still loved it as it still does it's job well. Will used it whenever I feel like doing MF shoots.

85mm f1/8 - This is my most least used lens... previously bought it to replaced my Canon 50mm f1/4 on my previous body (450D). This is a love-hate situation... after buying and using on my previous body, i dun like the lens that much cos i find the IQ not as good as described by the reviews out there ... but after using it on my current body (5DMKII), simply love it to bits, really different result as compared using it on my previous body! But i dun use it often though and it stays in my dry cabinet most of the time... :bsmilie:

Hah, just the right thread for me to 'showoff'

N50f1.4 - bought for the wide aperture & take portrait -10% utilised
N17-35f2.8 - excellent walkabout FX lens & wide - 25% utilised
T17-50f2.8 VC - I like the VC for use in low light situation indoor - 47.9% utilised
N24-70f2.8 - dun know why I got this?? Excellent but Heavy! - 5% utilised
N80-200AFD - use this for concert like once in a blue moon - 5%
N70-300G VR - for the F1 or sport/bird shooting - 2%
T90mmSP - for macro shooting once ever -0.1%
Tk11-16f2.8 - for that super duper wide angle & groupy photo - 5%

Used to have;
18-105mm
18-35mm
18-70mm
12-24f4
35f1.8

55-200mm

Well here goes, my half decent collection

30 f1.4 - Nice walkaround and delicious bokeh. I bought it because I tested 35mm 1.4L on my friend's 7D and is poisoned by the speed etc. So got this for my Nikon. So far loving it. (10% and going up since I just got this)

17-50vc - Freaking wonderful lens that allow me to take stills via hand held thats not possible on any other lens. (50%)

85 f1.8 - good bokeh, enough reach on DX for my style. A walkaround lens for me along with either 30mm or 17-50 and I use it when i lazy to carry 70-200 vr2. (20%)

50 f1.8 - good value for $$ prime but I seldom use it unless its for portraiture or macro with raynox. IQ pretty good and I got it when I 1st ventured into primes. (3 ~ 5% usage)

70-200 vr2 - used when I shoot certain performances, events. Occasionally portraits too. Bokeh is very very nice. (10 ~ 15% usage only due to heavy weight)

Nowadays I always have the 1st 3 lenses when I go for shoots and add in the last one only if I need the reach.

my share :)

24-105 f/4-85% usage for me(portraits, close ups, landscape, streets, etc)
70-200 f/4-10% usage(zoo, runway shows)
50 f/1.8 usage(i just bought it coz its cheap, though i tried to use it last time)

used to have lens

tamron 70-200 f/2.8
canon 28-105
tamon 90MM macro

I nothing to show off... :(

18-55 (sold),
15-85(current), love this one to bits. Does everything. ;)

I do rent a couple of lenses from time to time:bsmilie:

Limited collection.
17-70mm f2.8-4.5 :Walkabout lens for me to shoot almost anything(80%)
28-300mm f3.5-6.3 :bought for the long focal length. Use for stage events that allow flash/aeroplane/Zoo/street(10%)
135mm f2.8 : Bought for Stage performance..has nice bokeh for diff perspective(5%)
50mm f1.4 :Shoot in low light street/performance(5%)

These are almost all I need.:)
But still wanting to buy a UWA to make myself a complete man;p

Interesting thread!

16-85VR : my 1st walkabout/travel lens, cover wide angle to normal, shoot anything in the day.(65%)
55-200VR : 2nd lens that I got it recently to cover telephoto range, cheap & light no complains. (35%)

<should include a wanna-buy-list as well> :sweatsm:

Poisonous thread:devil:

16-45(Normal walkabout)
28-300(Birding)
50(White elephant)

:)

sigma 10-20 (for clear reasons)
pentax fa 50mm f/1.4 (for cats)
miranda 24mm f/2.8 (street)
pentax kit lens
tamron 70-300
pentax fisheye 10-17mm (try not to overabuse fisheye effect)

yeah, that's all i have. i also have a tokina 28mm f/2.8 that i will probably get rid of, because the miranda has a aperture flaw that i can live with, but others might not be able to do so.

24-70 f2.8 L favourite 65%
70-200 f2.8L IS use mainly as portrait and stage shooting 20%
100mm f2.8 Macro IS used 15%

24 f1.4L - 40%. (landscape)
50 f1.2L - 60%. (portrait)

Just started photography for a few months with 500D

At the beginning I have only two lenses:

Canon 18-200mm 70% as it is so convenient for a beginner
Canon 50mm f1.8 30% Take still objects for some blur background and low light situation

Now only added 1 more lens

18-200mm 40% When I just carry a camera with me when go out without any fixed purpose for the day or when I do not know the environment.

50mm f1.8 10% When I want to have some fun and practice in prime experience

135 f2L 50% Just bought 1 month ago, trying to experiment around what are the situations I can make good use and utilize the full potential of this lens and used it frequently for performances (e.g. free shows at Esplanade during arts festival) which my 18-200 is very slow under low light condition.

Using EOS 7D....

EF 100mm f2.8 Macro L = I take Macro the most.

EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS = My Walkabout lens.

EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L = My telephoto lens.

Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 = Seldom use due to cropping with my 17-55mm....

EF 50mm f1.4 = Very seldom use due to taking little portraits nowadays....

Nikkor
18-105(primary lens at one time) > kit lens. sold off cos not a fast lens though good with VR.
50 f1.8(seldom use) > everybody buy so I buy cos its cheap:bsmilie:
55-200(primary lens at one time) > needed the reach however sold off as found it hard to shoot at this range and its not a fast lens
17-55(primary lens on D90) > fast aperture, wide enough, solid and big body

Tokina
11-16(Seldom use) > had to try super wide angle but sold off to fund 17-55. now kinda miss it for my taiwan trip.
50-135(primary lens at one time) > solid built and slightly pro look as its quite long as well. Sold off to fund some other lens

Sigma
18-50(primary lens at one time) > to try out macro as well to replace 18-105. sold off as I bought Tamron 17-50.
70-200(seldom use) > too expensive to get Nikkor. Wanted it for the reach.

Tamron
17-50(primary lens on D80) > impressed with the sharpness when contemplating getting Sigma 24-70

Here's mine:

Canon system
17-55mm f/2.8: most used. walkabouts, event shoots.
70-200mm f/2.8: least used. sports, wildlife, runways.

Panasonic system
20mm f/1.7: favourite at the moment. using it to take anything from portraiture to landscape to walkabouts.
14-45mm f/3.5-5.6: 2nd favourite before purchasing 20mm. used for walkabouts and macro (with Raynox DCR250).
45-200mm f/3.5-5.6: least used. wildlife.

Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 L (fav lens, even for streets)
Nikkor 18-105mm L kit (fav lens on IR cam, all purpose for travelling)
Sigma 50mm f1.4 L (when I need the "bokeh")

Other than that, my two other lenses are hugely underutilized but I keep them because sometimes they are needed.
Nikkor 55-200mm f4-5.6 L (cheapo telezoom)
Nikkor 35mm f1.8 L (when I need to fit everything into pocket, or to complement 10-24mm in case I need a bit more zoom and don't wanna lug the kit lens).

The L is of course, non existent in Nikon lenses but I thought it'll be cool to have it there since I always envy Canon users with L behind their lens descriptions :vhappy:
