Hi everyone

I saw some photos taken of Tyersall House and I tried googling to see if this place is still accessible and not torn down? Anyone has any updates on this place? The last post I saw in this forum was sometime in early 2009, so I might be 1.5 year too late

it is currently undergoing a lot of digging. access has been rendered very hard - you will have to climb a very steep slope up.

i went last in 2009's summer, and there were a lot of workers milling about the place - spoke to some of them and they said that they had been directed to do something to the ground there, i didn't really get what they were saying. i think it was something to do with hardening the ground or something to that effect. so yes, it will be very hard to shoot now.

hi everyone, glad to know there's still some interest in this place. One thing I never knew or discovered was that it's haunted!

Hmm, if that's the case I don't think I wld be venturing on my own, I'd rather do it in a group but accessibility may be an issue?

here lies the temptation........... warm light during sun down hours throws a really great cast on the building's texture ..... if u have the guts to stay that late

hi ed9119
have you shot at this place before and encountered anything unusual? :p

Ed, how about another outing? ask tungtung come also (although dun have human subjects for him to shoot haha). :sweatsm:

another interesting one would be the former mitre hotel. i hear that the legal battle was over and it was set to be demolished but this article here seem to say otherwise? http://www.asiaone.com/Business/My+Money/Property/Story/A1Story20090510-140460.html

i did some search on google image for Tyersall and Mitre Hotel location, they both seem to be still there. Tyersall location from the satellite image seem to show that there's quite a lot of land clearing done around the area (that's also if i'm looking at the correct location), so perhaps something is being done there. As for the old mitre hotel, i think its still around ....

Some photos of mitre on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/liyin/sets/72157602314289570/

but i can be completely wrong since my sense of location/bearing in singapore is off half the time and i only know how to get from home - office - cbd/orchard. so pls excuse my ignorance if i'm really slow in catching up :p

actually besides mitre hotel, there is also 1-2 abandoned hse near orchard road area. :)

Google satelite images never seems to get updated at all.

What's it shows is like no different from when Google earth was first made available.

For e.g. it shows the SBG entrance still under construction.

That part of SBG (Botany centre) has been completed and opened to the public for so long already.

that said, i would not go alone to istana woodneuk alone (that's the other name for tyersall house i think), because the top level has been ravaged by fire before, it might not be 100% stable, good to have someone around if anything unfortunate happens.

Just read from API that this house is actually called Istana Woodnuek, or Woodnuek Palace. The original Tyersall House was burned down in 1904 and never rebuilt.

correct. The original house has a red roof top while the other one is blue roof top. Thats what i read.

heh, sounds very intriguing! anyone up for it?
