Hi guys/girls

I joined quite awhile back, but this is my very first post in CS!
Am pretty new to photography, just gotten myself a Canon 500D in January, just a month before the 550D came out but nonetheless, I love my 500D! Just started to learn how to use manual function, but also am not so "well-versed" in it yet

Hope you guys can guide me along and give me some tips! Also, I recently just started a my own photography tumblog where I'll be posting more of my works! These are some pictures of my work! Hope you enjoy them!

Well, it took them years of experience, learning and hard work to get to where they are today.

So read more, learn more and shoot more. You will be able to shoot like them one day.

Anyway, I'm looking for a zoom lens, preferably 3rd party as I'm with my kit I lens, EF-S 18-55 IS which I think is kinda little zoom for the things I'm shooting and the AF of the lens has some problem catching on(Will probably get it fixed with Canon soon.)

I'm still not so familiar with the terms used in photography, and would like some advice from the seniors some breakdown of the terms used :embrass: and recommendations of shops for 3rd party lens or even 2nd hand 3rd party lens. A 300mm zoom would be just right for me.

If the AF can't catch at times, there might not necessarily be any defect. Because no product guarantees a 100% catch at all times.
If you want to zoom in further, find a lens with longer focal length. Try the 18-200mm or 70-300mm.

I meant it wasn't like that when I first got it, it was catching objects nicely, until a few days ago, so should I go back to Canon to have fix it? Afterall, the warranty covers the lens as well? :think:

Just look at the following from flickr. They are using the same equipment as you (500D + kit lens).

Ouhhh...Wow... That was definitely an eye opener :thumbsup: I guess I was wrong about the expensive equipment and stuff:sweat:, at least I learnt something new today, and now know the true potential of my 500D
