Hi Everyone,

During a photo shoot, I think I accidentally knocked my camera. Now, the control panel display screen on the top my D300 has a crack. From the looks of it, the crack is on the surface only and fortunately the LCD display is working fine.

Is there a replaceable part for the screen and is there a protector to prevent such unfortunate incidents from happening again?

Thank you.

you can send it to Nikon Service Center for parts replacing.

there are screen protector available, I'm using the Martin Field, which has one piece for the LCD display and another piece for the top panel, however such screen protector are mainly protecting it from scratching but not hard knock.

Woah! Well, you should just head down to NSC for a quote.

Paid 30 bucks for both pieces of GGS LCD protector (bought from OP) for my D300s, excellent protection!

just get NSC to replace it, it's just a piece of plastic/glass, won't cost much. it's there to protect the actual lcd below it.

i suppose the crack was the result of some knock, which the only way to prevent is to be more careful.
stick on screen protectors can only prevent scratches but not cracks.
unlike your main LCD which comes with the hard cover which will take the impact from knocks.

The GGS protector is in fact a piece of compound material (thickness I think 0.5 mm). Even when suffer hard knock, the GSS protector should go first and I doubt will affect the LCD itself.

Specification:

• It uses a 0.5mm ultra thin optical glass with at least 90% transmittance. It has higher transparency than other LCD screen protector.
• It is as hard as 8H and it can bear a heavy burden (8kg/cm2), also it can prevent from being rubbed, scraped and bumped.
• It is well sealed by 3M double side adhesive tape which is not easy to be unglued and easy to be installed. There is no air bubble or angle occurs during sticking on the equipment. It will not affected by the temperature and humidity.
• It prevents the LCD screen infected by sweat stain, smear, acid and alkali element and prolongs the life of the screen.
• It can be removed and reused if the glue layer hasn’t been damaged.
• Anti-Scratch, Anti-Dust, Anti-Collision, Moisture-proof, UV Protection

yeah! GGS screen protector worked for me!

Went to climb a mountain with my D90 and it was rough with the camera slinged here and there to climb with all fours on certain trails with rock walls beside me. Only after the whole trip did I realize that somehow the corner of my LCD screen/protector was smashed and a ~1cm crack developed from it traveling inwards to the centre. Heart pain and cracked.... then.... when I removed the GGS.... OMG... only the GGS was damaged and the LCD screen was unharmed!!!

buying a few GGS protector as spares for the future too.... lolz....

The original nikon LCD protector did not work for me coz it traps sand particles in between and will scratch your LCD display like crushing a sand between your LCD screen and the protector like a sandwich.

I guess for small scale knocks, it does help to dissipate/absorbs the shock, for my real life case at least.... heng.... ;)

The replacement cost for the top glass is only about S$10. No brainer to get it fixed.

The plastic cover is only $10...the protector cost as much.....so why do people bother to spend on the protector?

Wow. S$10? That's really decent.

I tot of that too.... then I tot I prefer not to send my body in to NSC and have it opened up literally to do replacement and end up having unwanted internal debris like what happened to another CS bro...

Think of it as 'post invasive surgery' effect... e.g. forgotten doc's blade or cotton pads sewed up inside the body... :bsmilie:
