Choose which ever suits your photographic needs and wants better. 
To be more specific, the 550 appears to be much more highly speced, while the 5D seems almost 'rudimentary' in comparison.
Which of the functionality difference would be most useful to you and the type of photography you do? We won't know and different photographers have both different requirements, as well as different personal preferences.

TS, you might like to note that there are differences between the two models, hence, their abilities to perform different tasks.
I doubt if the 5D can do the job of capturing full HD video with manual control and selectable frame rates or go up to ISO 6400.

if you can't tell the difference, buy NEITHER. What's the point of buying a $2k camera if you don't even know why you bought it?
I will jump at FX if both cost the same which i seriously doubt so.. A good used 5D still fetch ard 1.8-2K
I would feel the biggest draw is the FF sensor..but you have to look at what are the lenses you have, are they made useless on your FF?
full frame sensor and a metal body on the 5D seems the only positives .......... the 550D matches or exceeds the 5D in almost every other department......
if your existing lenses are EFS... then 550D is a wiser choice.
But if u owns all EF lens... and do not need all the fanciful features by 550D (myself i dun really shoot video with DSLR)... then get 5D.
If its a mixture of EF and EFS... which lens u are more comfortable working with and can you forgo those EFS lens if u take 5D?

Then...you must know how the differences affect you.
Check your lenses line-up. But personally, even if i have EF-S lenses, I will still get 5D, because FF is the thing for the future.

Now that's just uncalled for.
If you know the differences between both cameras and have done your own research (there's a wealth of information online), it really shouldn't be too difficult to make a decision. Simply put, the 550D is better specced with newer features but the 5D still wins hands down in terms of sheer image quality. Take your pick. It's your money.

Back on topic, i would take the 5d. Unless i need video i think i would be happy with the 5d for a longer time than 550d. There's no difference between digic 2 and digic 4. All you get from digic 4 is what? A nicer menu and slightly faster frame rate and video? That's just me though. You need to decide for yourself which suits you more.
