Shutter cable release vs wireless remote

wired or wireless....?
wired is cheaper, wireless will cost more
wired don't need power, wireless need batteries
so use wired when you still close enough to the camera
use wireless if you think you really need it
I bought a Phottix wireless which can also be used as wired. When it is wired, you do not need batteries. To me, it is like kill 2 birds with one stone .... though it is more than double the price for a just wired shutter release. Other brands also have this, got mine through mass sale

For the Nikon Dxx series, the cheapest option is actually the ML-L3 infra-red remote.
the only bad thing is that you require line of sight. So if you're behind the camera, you need to stick your hand out in front, and point it backwards towards the sensor. Slightly awkward. Another bad thing is that EVERY ML-L3 can trigger the camera. So if you're attending a gathering and some other joker is doing the same, your camera will keep going off... :bsmilie:

and i was wondering how come my wired cable never seemed to run out of power... really no batteries? so it works by completing circuit of sorts? :dunno:

For long exposure (where bulb is needed) i find cable release give me more control.
Not a fan of wireless remote as i find it might not work all the time..
So conclusion? SHUTTER CABLE RELEASE! Cheap and good (edit. Aappraently not all are cheap..)
It's like WiFi... For modems at home, the wired ones wins! The wireless ones - urm... not 100% connection most of the time...
Same goes for wireless mouseys- I prefered one with the TAIL! Tail-less ones often ended up doing bungee jumping without the cord... :bsmilie:

i tend to forget that i set to wireless shutter release sometimes... when see something interesting i click the button and no reaction... when i finish changing the shutter release mode to normal... it's gone...

actually 3rd party like phottix wireless shutter release has dedicated channels to set so that u wont interrupt ur neighbours lol.
i think its pretty cool. and good when u r taking group shots or potraits since its not wired, u can move around.

I'm not kidding! First of all, if you tend to shoot self-portrait often or consider it very important, then wireless you must have... Secondly, on top of self-portrait you also like to shoot landscapes or long-exposure images where you might not be able to stand in front of the camera (unless you can walk on water or fly in the air) then the wire type is probably a need-to-have. Hence, buy both!!
For me, I'm not so vain so I can only go for wired type... :bsmilie: Otherwise, timer function will do, set 10 sec and run like hell!

That will be like 7-8 kilometers if you walk? Then got to use your mobile phone to activate your camera.................. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:If you need to stand 10 or 20 minutes away, then a wireless trigger is good.
