In a crowded train.

Hi guys, care to share how you make it in a crowded train with your bulky camera equipment bag and a tripod. I still find it space consuming even when I place my bag inbetween my legs while standing on the train. When people are moving in and out of the train, I will have some problem as I need to slide my bag with my leg to make space for them to move out. Please do not ask me to get a vehicle to solve the problem .

I guess there isn't a hard and fast solution to your problem. The least obstructive alternative I can think of is to secure yourself a seat. That way, you can place everything either on your lap or in front of you, and no one can expect you to move your equipment because they're already in the least conspicuous and obstructive place possible. Unless you are willing to hold it up above your head to free up standing and walking space.

Ya, I will try to get a sit if possible. But there are times when a old man or someone with the need for a sit gets on and the person in the pirority sit is also having the need for the sit, dead asleep or just a pure a**hole;(. So I stood up and gave up the sit... Squeeze war for the rest of journey.

nah... there is no obvious solution.

If you stand right in the middle of the 'connection' between carriages, it will be highly unlikely that someone has to get past you to reach the door, since you're the furthest person from the door.

Hope about suggesting to SMRT to install those overhead baggage carrier thinggies trains in other countries have? Maybe you can stow your stuff there then (while keeping a close watch on it) and not hinder people.

hmmm i wondering what is the purpose of this post? you r carrying x volume that you want us to make it disappear?

i do have the following suggestions:
1. carry your tripod like rifle pt i.e. hands stretched above your head
2. stand by the corner where possible
3. place your equipment under the seats if you are standing in the centre

Take bus! The MRT is so convenient and it links to everywhere that I find that sometimes people forget about the available buses... resulting in really empty buses where I can put my stuff on the seat next to me, and throughout my whole journey, have no need to move my stuff for other passengers to sit. Of course, it depends on what bus and what timing, but my situation is about 7+am where I thought people might be going to work. *shrugs*

Or, you could decide on less equipment to bring out if you don't need a complete focal length range? =) Most times I just bring out 3 primes. =P

I have no idea how big your bag is but this morning I had to squeeze out of bus aisle with this person whose bag dropped sideways on the floor and she couldn't be bothered to pick it up (or didn't realize) and it was lying across the entire aisle. :dunno:

I guess pretending not to acknowledge the other passengers works (i.e. grow a thicker skin).

I see passengers going Changi Airport with luggage morning squeeze with crowd also like that. I don't think your camera bag as big as luggage ba?

what a question...no offence..but I don't think you can ever find a solution. :dunno:
coz you are in a crowded public transportation where you can't control how many ppl will be in a cabin...can't control the peak hours...the only "solution" is to take the train outside rush hours, isn't it...if there's a solution for you, there's a solution for every commuters who need to take the crowded trains to work everyday...

coz you are in a crowded public transportation where you can't control how many ppl will be in a cabin...can't control the peak hours...the only "solution" is to take the train outside rush hours, isn't it...if there's a solution for you, there's a solution for every commuters who need to take the crowded trains to work everyday...

I have a solution...

Take either the 3rd or 4th carriage of the train and stand at the wheelchair area (the part where the couple seats are missing). Usually it is seldom crowded there. I also bring along my portable seat so I can be comfortable for a longer journey. If you see some guy doing that, that'll be me.
