is CPL filter useful in evening / night shooting??
intend to getting 1 these weekends.
hard to say whether it's definitely useful or not...
depends on the sky, and especially the direction that the light is coming from.

As you can see in my first photo, you're pretty much shooting into the sun during sunset, if photographing the CBD/Esplanade area.
Polarisation will be minimal at such angles.

Can accentuate the sky and cut down on reflections on water. Depends on the effect you are going to achieve.

Sorry can make it this time - am in China now. Have fun guys and looking forward to seeing your photos =)

Just to advertise a bit. The following are scenes captured during sunset on the top floor of the Marina Barrage. Excellent place to shoot. One of my Favorites.

Bro daredevil, how do you know I need to get ND filter?..

Eh... at the indoor stadium, you were asking me about the cokins. And I told you for 10-22 you need Lee filters the size and price of godzilla. Then I pointed you to muscle man numnumball. you forgot already ar? ;)

My pics are fierce meh? No la. They are very the friendly one. A lot hinges on the weather and the cloud formations. Doing landscape photography is like waiting for blessings from a higher deity. Sometimes you wait and you get nothing. Sometimes you wait, you get storms and rain thrown at you. And at times like these (when I took the pictures), you feel that mother earth really loves you.

When you go to the outing the seniors there will teach you how to get there. It is a combination of shooting the right frame, using the right filters, and doing the right PP.

In these shots I shot using the technique called "Exposing to the right". This is where I purposely overexposes the scene but at the same time making sure I do not blow any highlights by looking at the RGB historgrams. Then using the RAW file, I pull it back in PP to correct exposure. This way I get a lot more details. I also pull back exposure differently on different parts of the picture. I used doge and burn, as well as Graduated exposure adjustments. After that, I export to PS, where I do lens distortion correction (for 2nd pic), and use different WB on differ parts of the picture (by using layers). A lot of work, especially the 2nd pic.
