Distortion Correction feature in K-x and K-7

if i am not wrong, i had ask the simliar question before
Think it only work for pentax DA series of lense only.
3rd party lenses or older series of lenses may not have the data commuciation between the body and the lenses
from tests i've seen, when you can use it, it works at correcting lens characteristic problem.
Yes, I read somewhere that the feature only works when you shoot with a DA or DFA lens.
Just wondering whether any of the K-x/K-7 users have actually tested this feature and can share on how well this feature works for you.
To be honest, I was rather surprise to see this feature available in K-x/K-7 as it is usually only available in more expensive camera. If it really works, it will save me a massive amount of time (i.e. instead of having to shoot in RAW mode and do post processing).

Yes this feature works but there is a small penalty in terms of image processing time, which does affect the time to preview the image and in outright fps the camera is able to shoot. If you want an in-camera no-fuss approach to distortion correction, this is a good solution.
However if you do happen to have the new Adobe Photoshop CS5, one can have on-the-fly lens distortion correction based on presets of popular lenses from different camera makes. You can shoot in both jpeg or RAW and even create your own lens correction setting presets. Very quick timesaver during post processing, so it all depends where you want the corrections done.
Looks quite good to me but i heard that if they are on picture take longer to be saved and you can't instantly preview your images:dunno: (even though i don't do that now...)

they have correction for the sigma 10-20? :lovegrin:
if that's so, i must get cs5 asap when i change computer. :lovegrin:
or maybe i should just get ptlens.. it's only usd25 after all...

The camera must be able to recognize the lens for this feature to work properly. And yes, because it needs to do image processing in-camera, so it will take longer to save the photo. I mean even your desktop PC will take a second or 2 to process and edited image, right?
But generally, the images are not so distorted that will require you to need adjustment full time. Just keep it off and use it if you notice distortion in the image.

Wow, seems like this feature works pretty well for the kit lens (at the widest end). By the way, here's the correct pix for 'distortion correction on at 18mm':

Yep, that's me - the lazy type... prefer to have everything done in-camera.
Sorry Bro. I don't use button customization but did a quick check of the manual and can't find anything about changing button functions. Perhaps someone else can confirm this?

With the K-7, if the rear LCD is off, press the Info button twice (if status display is already on, press the info button once only... pretty obvious lah) and use the 4 way controller to navigate to the distortion correction/lateral chromatic aberration correction tab. Use the rear e-dial to enable or disable. Takes no more than a few seconds. What's so difficult about it?
The camera manual is provided for you to read up on the camera's features, and if you take the time to figure out the controls yourself, you'll find that you'll get most out of your camera. Don't expect to be spoonfed info all the time.

Some latest info for you:
Adobe has posted a pre-release version of its Lens Profile Creator utility that enables creation of custom lens profiles for Photoshop CS5, ACR 6.1 and Lightroom 3. The process involves downloading and printing a checkerboard test chart from Adobe Labs, and shooting a series of RAW or non-RAW images. These can then be imported to the Lens Profile Creator to generate custom profiles for the Lens Correction feature in Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3. Furthermore, these profiles can also be shared via the company's user community.

The distortion correction works for all Sigma & Tamron lens as well? I can't tell if the distortion is corrected a not... ;p
